I'm one of the worst PVPers you'll ever see but I'm the first to admit that it's because I'm lazy and don't practice, I just run my trader. It's not like I stand a chance against much in a pirate train anyway. When I did practice, way back in the day? I could hold my own. That's how most games work, more power to you if you want to go up against the big boys but you have to put in the same work they did if you want to get that good.
If it was the other way around, intuitive and easy for anyone to immediately jump into the game and stand their ground against players with long-established characters, people would complain that there's no point in developing a good character/ship when a new guy can just blast you out of space. Can't have it both ways, and personally I prefer this way to the alternative.
The only part I agree with OP on is that there is to much dependence on the forums.
I would love to see an integrated forum type system in-game, perhaps in replacement of the News panel, with a communication system between players/factions and a location for up to date info on rules and lore.
Probably incredibly hard to do, but it would be amazing to have essentially "forums in-game."

It would be awesome , though probably we won't ever see it happen.
I can imagine the amount of work it would cost would be immense.
Also if not done really thoroughly I think it would go at the cost of a important chunck of the RP and fun.
The forum RP is a great thing and very enjoyable in my opinion,
It really gives that extra dimension and takes the game far beyond it's intended ways.
So personally I have to disagree that there is too much dependence on the forums,
I see it as another medium to play the same game.
About it getting too complicated,
In my experience its fun to unravel the puzzle piece by piece,
asif you are not intended to see the big picture at all
, but rather slowly evolve and intergrate into the storyline.
You find out little by little , who is who , why faction A does that , and what faction B does in respond,
the multitude of characters you encounter , the ability to see them evolve and do their own thing, etc.
It's a whole universe waiting to be discovered.
Hence the name Discovery.
I think....
The combat aspect is very difficult , I agree.
It takes years of practice to become as good as some of the players are,
at the same time It helps in fight when you have the mindset, not only is there always someone better then me, there must always be someone worse then me too xD
And it shouldn't matter who is best in fighting!
It's not about getting the most kills or being totally badass all the time,
getting your character to successfully run to safety after meeting a stronger opponent can be a victory too,
dying in a spectacular way can even be great fun.
also, practice really does help , at least it gives confidence , and everybody can drop that lucky mine ,
or that lucky razor.
If you find yourself killed by the same person/faction time and time again , simply pm about it , maybe in worst case avoid them for a while , ask for tips , or even increase your activity with said person(s).
I have learned that there's always a solution:)
game mechanics are old, so I dont see how it can be improved
nowadays too many different factions that not Vanilla based, I agree
go to Connecticut or ask people to teach you
you tired/hated/trolled/raged/flooded - make a break
ask admins/devs for /restart

Bit of PHP, some infocard overrides in the (existing) hooks on a predefined range... the tricky part would be proper categorising. It's possible but would take some doing.
Wide awake in a world that sleeps, enduring thoughts, enduring scenes. The knowledge of what is yet to come.

It has been like that since ever, on any game you play.
NPC's are just 1's and 0's, no matter how much thought you put on it, they don't end as the baddest things around. Players get to improvise, that's crucial, and you can't expect to - in any game - become the best, or at least an acceptable pvp'er without some decent thinking or asking around on how-to's.
I myself cba to think much about it - I enjoy the rp and thats it.
' Wrote:The biggest issues with this Mod in general have been the Dependency on this Forum for not just the Server Rules, but practically everything else. So much RP goes on in the forums it leaves people with less time playing the actual game!
A spring clean of the Forum and a simplified back to the original game of Freelancer for the Mod is needed IMO. There are far too many Sub-Factions now.
Wait, what?
This is a RP server, right? So much RP goes on in the forums 'cause people like to RP on the forums. There are those who even forumlance more than play. Other than reading the rules, it is not required to be active here. Back when I started to play an indie cop, I left the Liberty Laws open and that was it - that was the only forum lancing I did.
I'm seriously having a hard time understandanding why you dislike the forums.

I don't exactly feel the need, but, maybe it wouldn't hurt.
Maybe.

Rule of thumb: Don't post tired, drunk or sleepy, sometimes it does not end well.
