I think we need a rules overhaul. and.. Were actually Losing factions.

the servers going to change though.. I just hope it will be an active change.. rather then a reactionary one.

I wouldn't mind Donating some money toward Discovery actually... and if it was me developing such a successful Mod I would even be happy to keep working for free on it if it made people happy:)
I agree with you on every aspect.
Deadric my friend, I know our beloved dev team is working for free and we can never thank them enough.
But have you ever thought of these why they are doing this?
I belive they are trying to make something better which will be loved by people. The ideas and feedbacks they normally asks is to make these mod better which will attract more and more people.
Yes they have made a great mod which is loved by us all but it failed to attract people as much as expected.
After the release of 4.86 we have seen a lot of player joined but after 2-3 months its back to previous stage. I dont think that makes our dev team happy either. Im not a great thinker but as much I understand the problem is complicated.
For example, not 2-3 months ago i saw a faction created named ECG. Gamma id flooded. Whenever I log in i see 3-4 ECG there, sometime its higher, on crisis time one day i counted over 20 of them on line at a time. But now i rarely see them... Where they all gone????
I was just trying to discuss and analyse the problem. Insted of small/mini/midi factions official faction with loose recuitment procedure( in game recruitment.. There are a lot of player who are not in the forum ).
Making money is too easy in discovery now. Its takes 24 hrs or a little more to get a bs now. Now if you are getting something for free i bet you wouldnt love it as you love something you have earned by hard labour. I remember the times when it was not that easy to get a bs. People play cautiously dont break ruls much because looseing something will hit hard, but now its too easy. You loose a cau8 you make another in next 24 hr. So no need to respect rules that much.
When its easy its easy to leave. But when its hard then its hard to leave.
So to make disco better and attractive and long lasting I think we have to make things harder.
1) missions more harder
2) earning money by mining and transporting must be harder
3) +to official faction ..easy recruitment.. Keep them as recruit until they are good in RP
4) some missions insanely hard which will take 5-6 men group to play together with multiple way points

I agree with some stuff 'ere and disagree with some stuff 'here.

Let me elaborate.

Custom introductory mission would be pretty interesting. Maybe one for each house, to explain its main inner workers and stuff. Like saying "Hey, these are the unlawfuls and those are the lawfuls, we hate each others for reasons." Something that occurred me was the addition of a single "Library" station on every house space, open to all, as Freeports, that sell only "Books" - introductory text about factions and happenings.

I think I'll dig into it more once I have the time, maybe write a summary or a simplified version of it all. Will be fun regardless.

About making earning stuff harder, as in making money slower, I will redo my point from another thread I cba to find right now.

Many here work daily jobs and have a family to go back to. Some of these get to play four, two or half an hour per week. Of these, there are those who enjoy far more writting or making babies, then spending time with those babies, than power trading twenty four hours or more to get the baddest battleship available with the bestest armour available. And it's exactly these excellent role players that will see reason to leave if the time to make enough money to buy a simple ship doubles.

So no, I don't think grinding money should be the slowest thing ever.

Other than that, the commentary about people poofing out it's retorical - Mass Effect 3 is out, D3 is close to launch, some of us have school or college to tend to, etcetera. I believe that if disco held this far it will not simply die.

Also, about strictly keeping recruits as they are until they prove themselves...
I can't begin to count how many will jump on your throat for saying that. I myself believe in such guidance, even to the point of defending that some ships should be flied by off. factions only, but you know what happens when official factions thighten the grip too much? People qq about elitism and don't join.

Im pretty sure you had in mind vanilla missions when you stated house missions but remember making custom missions are very hard..try play crossfire campain...would you like that disco end up that way? I defenetly would not....exept the custom missions developers are darn good and can add exelent speck and cutseens not a standard mission..fly from A to B and thats all and not a thing similar to crossfire mod....after 3 missions you wonder...dafq i am playing
In short...if the missions could not be done with quality in mind...then disco will be ruined expecialy if the missions are a "must" to the restart command and you need to complete then to play along (this is also a good ideea to force peaople and i mean newbies to learn about the atmosphere in disco)

I've Played Crossfire Mod for a year or so and I never fully understood how the 'main mission' was meant to lead a new player through the entire of Sirius and Altair, it was not done that well:(


The way I would implement the /Restarts and Story-Missions would go something like this:

Any /restart would be the same as we have now, no need to complete the Story-Mission, and you can fly off and do whatever you want.

But the first thing the console would say is: "check your cargo before take-off", inside is a message telling you about the Mission (the beginning of every Story including server rules etc) it would directing you to a specific NPC in the Bar or perhaps a News article.

The Idea being that even the old hands at this game will be intrigued to find out what happens next in the Story and get sent to some exotic new location to fight more 'bad guys':)


I personally Think there should only be 'Story' related Missions offered by the NPC's and the Job's Board reserved for money making, Set Difficulty missions.

The Rumours would still be there and still be relevant and would be a good place to start when forming a coherent Story to fit within the current Setting.

Gallia, in particular, was done from scratch over the course of several months.

Hi there, It's Duke.

I've done missions for RM in Omega 15 against Corsair Battleships (4 at once on occasion)

and for BAF in Newcastle against Molly gunboats, so there are missions like that, probably more

for other factions, though they might not be easy to find.
