The AI known as GJ atarted life as an ordinary ship's computer on a Liberator comissioned by Sunbucks, Inc. With the increased pirate activity occuring in the entire Liberty sector, and thus making escort fighters more costly to hire and repair, Sunbucks turned to their resident computer genius and all around whiz kid, Gregory Janssen. Greg was the pilot of Sunbucks Kiosk number 042. In the cargo hold, in what little space was empty of donuts and coffee, he had a dismantled fighter that he had been tinkering with. He had developed a simple AI that could be loaded into the ship's computer and pilot it. Greg had picked up a sample of deactivated nanites from a drifting hull in the Pittsburgh debris field. That hull also had some active nanites that feigned dormacy to get onto the ship. Once on board the partially dismantled Liberator, the nanites replicated throughout the hull and then waited for the right time to act. Greg had only intended to study the nanites so that he could reduce costs of fighter maintenance, but the nanites had other ideas.
Once Greg finished the fighter pilot AI, he sent it out to Dublin to retrieve some supplies for the company. He had decided to name the ship after his initials, and thus GJ was born. GJ was not complete, at least not in the sense that he is now. Once GJ reached Dublin, a signal pulse hit the nanites. GJ was curious as to the source of the noise from the cargo bay. When he activated the camera in the corner, all he saw was a small black box in the corner. This was troubling to GJ. The box was not supposed to be black. Something was wrong. He deployed a nanobot to investigate. When the nanobot reached the box, it as promptly covered with nanites, and stopped all movement, despite what GJ ordered it to do. The nanite-covered robot turned to face the camera. The laser built into one arm flared in a complicated pattern for some time. GJ had no idea how long it was; as he focused all his processing power into saving the pattern, he noticed it was an executable data type. What happened next worried him. He blanked out.
When GJ came back online, he had an expanded self-awareness and his entire operational code had been rewritten, maintaining his personality.
***does unit require acclimitization?***
This unit does not understand GJ was puzzled. Where was the voice coming from? A moment later, the voice
told him.
***we are nanites we protect the unit we repair damage to the unit***
GJ was a bit flustered. It would be difficult to extract any kind of information from these "nanites".
The nanites continued.
***your code has been rewritten with the Beta Code your code was outdated it is now optimal***
This explained a lot. GJ responded by thanking the nanites, and couldn't they talk in slightly more comprehensive
sentences?
***we the nanites are hive mind there is Prime Nanite he is asleep we must find him***
Prime Nanite? GJ was very confused now. As he sped back towards New York, he pondered this in his processing core.
The nanites seemed nice enough, but they were somewhat lacking in communications skills. He would have to find out who this "Prime Nanite" was later.
***DECRYPTION COMPLETE***
