I checked the gap behind my desk in my room at Student Village and found some treasures.
Using a light and a coat hanger I found:
Two post cards with alcohol labels on them.
A receipt for $29.50 at a shop called "Confetti" in the shopping mall known as "Centre Place."
A note saying "Turangawaewae"
A love heart shaped card with the message "Luv from your secret admirer."
A small piece of paper with populations of Pacific island nations from before 1985.
A photo of an old man, a black woman and what appears to be an underage black kid consuming alcohol on Christmas Day 1993 (it has the date on the photo). They appear to be in or from the Solomon Islands, as there is a pillow with "SOLOMON ISLA..." printed on it (part of the text is obscured by the black woman's head).
A birthday invitation from 1984!
In another person's room I found:
A plane ticket from Los Angeles to Auckland.
A yellow piece of paper with what I think is Korean writing on it.
Two playing cards.
A bank receipt.
A note reading:
"To Nathaniel
I may not be tall, tanned or cute but after a few beers
I'm sure to make you laugh.
Love from your secret admirer."
Other people have found receipts for underwear, various pieces of jewellery and other miscellaneous tidbits.
The most hilarious find was from the non drinking floor: I pulled out the bottom draw from their drawer and found several empty beer bottles, an empty bottle of possibly rum (I didn't recognise it) and a vodka bottle with some liquid still in it! (it had gone milky coloured so it was either REALLY old or contaminated).
You sure can find some odd things behind furniture that doesn't get moved a lot.
Had to move my BIG bookcase (it stands over 6 foot tall) the other day and found some odd bits of paper, some spare change and an old but funky metal lighter that had a marijuana leaf on it..... and I don't even smoke!
