The Phenom has an on-die sensor. Download SpeedFan and check the actual temperatures. A thermal shutdown can also come from the videocard, so check for dust on the videocard heatsink as well.

Well, dust was my first suspicion when the issues started, so I cleaned out all the fans first.
It looks like the thermal paste was the issue here.
