And the final point is quite whineing.Period.If you come into z21,you will be scanned, and dealt with accordingly. If you enter the mine field from either direction, you will be scanned, and dealt with accordingly.Period.If you are tired of being stopped/blown up by capships...then my advice is do not carry contraband and do not enter restricted military space. Its that simple really.Even a caveman could do it.

Speaking of Lawful Piracy, I was thinking of creating an [IRS] faction not too long ago, the idea still amuses me...

' Wrote:As far as resources go, the point about pirates is that the pirate factions such as the Corsairs don't have the same level of resources as the house militaries. See for example OPG's post about capital ship registration - they have to steal all their H-Fuel and MOX from convoys.

Also, real-life naval forces use heavy warships to interdict smugglers all the time - google prince william carribean if you don't believe me. Avoiding house military patrols is part of the skill of being a smuggler - the reason for the rule about pirates in capital ships is so that you don't have a cruiser or battleship taking on a Mammoth (for example) - in fact personally I'd restrict pirates to snub vessels, a gunboat with inferno cannons is always going to beat a transport.

Excellent suggestion. The HMS Iron Duke is not a true navy capital ship.

The HMS Iron Duke is a Type 23 Frigate.

Length 133 meters
Beam 16 meters
Draught 7 meters
Displaciing 4200 tons
Crew of 181

Compare that with say a Ticonderoga Class Cruiser

Length 173 meters
Beam 17 meters
Draught 10 meters
Displacing 9,600 tons
Crew of 360

Compare that to an Iowa Class Battleship

Length 270 meters
Beam 33 meters
Draught 11.3 meters
Displacment 45,000 tons
Crew 2788

I'd place the Frigate to be comparable to a Gunboat, which would be exactly what Prince William is using to combat piracy and drug smuggling in the Carribean. Which if the rules were changed would allow lawfuls to go after smugglers in gb's.

Of course z-21 is an entirely different situation. Being in Alaska or z21 really should not have anything to do with smuggling. Far as I'm concerned if SA or LSF scan and see someone in either area with contraband... just blow them up. To have them halt and drop cargo or pay a fine is a bit oorp. Smugglers in those areas should not get a warning or be fined. In addition, a Cruiser/BS blockade of Alaska is to me is right on the money. This also applies to any smuggler using a guard system such as omi-100...the smuggler should just be destroyed.

Edit: Keep in mind to scale all the ship's down to compare to FL capitals. The FL capitals are not anywere near the size of their ocean going cousins. GB's tend to only have a crew of around 5. In addition, cargo size does not nesesarily relate to crew size. As GB's also have a cargo capacity in the 300-400 range.

Quote:Given these differences, saying "lawfuls" should be treated the same as pirates regarding ship usage for two very different activities makes no sense whatsoever.

While i'm currently undecided on what should be done regarding the whole battlecruiser/cruiser/battleship chasing down smugglers (although it is very unfair), I have always been extremely vocal on allowing pirate capital ships to demand allied NPC pilots from traders/smugglers/anyone and kill the person who refuses. If the lawfuls can demand their allied pilots in their battleships and battlecruisers from traders etc who have been killing loads, then pirates, regardless of the faction, should be allowed to do the same if one of their capital ships comes across a trader wiping out dozens of allied pilots and storing them in the hold.

I, in RP as the captain of the Outcast Destroyer Drax, am not going to turn a blind eye and ignore a trader hauling 150 Liberty Rogue pilots and 20 or so Outcast pilots (and yes, this has happened) simply because i'm in a capital ship. If he does not drop them when demanded, he'll damn well die. That's equivalent to trying to smuggle contraband past the authorities.

I don't think that should be against the rules. It would be completely retarded in roleplay for me to simply ignore the fact that this damn trader is taking captive my comrades in arms and intends to turn them over to be imprisoned in Sugarland (which is a 100% death sentence for Outcast prisoners, for instance).

maybe - but on the same leaf you could say that a starflier with a civi ID lurking around at the badlands rogue base is a risk to the security of the base - still you must not attack and take him out.

while i agree that a warship should be allowed to take out a transport in specific circumstances - we cannot do it with the current ruleset. - the rules are clear, even if unfair from some points of view. - a trader can hang out in front of your battleships nose with 5000 of your buddies, telling you that he is currently having his crew torturing them - while he jettisons one by one and shoots them with his transport guns into space dust. - yet you must not do anything about it.

would the trader do it if he wasn t immune? - prolly not. - will you still get sanctioned when you attack him? - prolly yes. weigh your chances, - you may be in RP, but you ll still get a forced vacation from playing.

however, it must not be ooRP for a trader to haul pirates as hostages. some might even hold some of them for security matters - i have yet gotto see a pirate that spared a trader, cause the trader told the pirate that he d kill his buddies when he was fired upon. - the pirate allways ( in 100% of the cases i experienced ) told the trader that he either doesn t care much or he d pick them up from the wrecks ( mind, you often don t get all of them )

the traders violation is metagaming, which is not sanctionable , the pirates violation is breaking the rules. and both may be inRP.

if its such obvious metagaming - why not punish the trader with the best thing to do - which is ... ignore him. don t play "with" him. he ll get bored and leave you alone. - pretend he is not there and has none of your buddies in his hold. or - even better - call your fighter/bomber buddies that can cripple him down to like 10% hull with no turrets - he can decide - suicide and loose his cargo ( including the pilots ) or dock and repair - [ well, or trade the guys to a friend and then suicide ]
