I know this might be a stupid question, but is it possible to 'join' a faction and be able to RP as one of the ranks that doesn't stick you with a tiny fighter that couldn't kill an idling Startracker if it tried? I mean I'd like to start out RPing as, say, a Hacker with acess to a Sabre or something of that nature. Being stuck with the worst of the worst when you're just starting seems a little bit boring, especially when you could easily afford a VHF with good weapons. Also, is there some kind of special thing I need to do to join a faction or is it just IFF? Anything on the forum that needs to happen before I can be considered a member of a faction?
Thanks in advance.

Well; You can just buy the ID, get the IFF, and use any ship you want that the ID allows. Thats what's called being an independant faction player. INRP you are a member of that faction, but you may be RPd as "reserve fleet" or low rank or something, you can pretty much do whatever an official faction member of that ID does, but you wont be in their "skype-group-thingy"

Or; you can go to the faction section on the forums, and apply to join an official faction, if they let you in, you will get a tag, and join thier skype group, but they may restrict your ship somewhat, it depends. However most factions are fine with people starting off in VHFs and such, generally capships are the only thing that are restricted.

Sure, most unofficial factions (and some official factions) don't require that stupid "You fly stupid ship gg".

*cough* VR *cough*

Power does not corrupt. Fear corrupts... perhaps the fear of a loss of power.

Most factions don't restrict any ships anymore, except for the big ones of course.
