Yep, I know this is another one. but after some events that went down I asked my friend about a certain rp/pvp aspect regarding traders and pirates and this is what he told me.
So im a pirate and im pirating a trader, I do my pirate spiel etc. etc. without firing a shot at him. The trader suddenly fires at me without saying a single word throughout the interaction. Now I thought both parties need rp before someone can fire, and since i did my pirate spiel can the transport fire without saying a word? or does he have to say something.
Can someone clear this up for me?

Really? That surprises me. I'd argue to the contrary but regardless, I've had sanction reports I've filed which were processed in which I gave several lines to the trader and he opened fire on my wordlessly. Perhaps an admin again clarifying would be good. It really is poor form for the trader to do that anyways and if it is allowed in my opinion it would be a good idea to close that loophole.
if someone gives you a demand and you then attack him then that is still silent engaging here is an example of a recent person getting sanctioned for that
However! if your shield drops below 50% however then you can defend yourself without saying a word
Quote:5.2 All attacks must be the result of some form of role play. "Engaging" is not sufficient. An attack is any hostile action that drains shields to less than 50%. Being hit with a CD is not considered an attack. If a player is attacked he has a right to defend himself regardless of who is attacking.
I will highlight the relevant section of this:
- An attack is any hostile action that drains shields to less than 50%.
- If a player is attacked he has a right to defend himself regardless of who is attacking.

That was from way back when, Hone, because IIRC I'm the one that said it back as part of my rules explanation series. (For those of you who don't know, I used to be an admin here. I no longer am, but I'm still a rules lawyer.)
So long as there has been sufficient RP, it really doesn't matter WHO shoots first. But just as the pirate has to make a legitimate demand, if the trader is going to start shooting, he has to wait for the pirate to actually MAKE that demand. Pirate shooting out a lane and saying 'Halt' is NOT sufficient RP for EITHER party to open fire.

Alright so I did make a demand, asked for money, and gave him time to respond. He fired at my ship without saying a word. So how my case differs from the one that Trail showed is that I actually said a -demand-
Do i still have a case for a sanction report Agmen?

See that sanction report? Hawk specifically mentions that the pirate had not made a demand in his reasons for why the guys getting sanctioned.
You DID make a demand.
To be honest just think about what youd do in real life, rather than use the rules to win.
EDIT: Also ye agmen, I think I was thinking of you, but I couldnt find your post, the admins pinned/linked it recently (within the last year) but they seem to have buried it again.
