Lots of options for you all there!

I wanted to do this because now four different posts (Three or four) have become discussions on the marsflier and its weapons, so here is a poll where you can debate it without invading other people's posts.

My personal opinion is kick it out, it looks bad, and the weapons are screwing serverely with the gameplay, I admit I use them, but only because other people are using them. I would have no problem in trading in all the parts for another alternative, should the ship be removed.

In my opinion the worst weapon is the turret, it is hideously powerful, and when mounted on a rheinland battleship, that ship becomes a one player invasion force.

My bomber has two of them, and no NPC in the game ca hassle me, most players have some difficulty even in bombers, and I'd give most capitol ships a run for their money. Not because I have skill, but because my weapons are up to battleship standards.

Thats my opinion what do you think? And none of that slander stuff, try and keep it civilised?

I voted for take it out for both reasons because it really really unbalances tha game. It looks very out of place in Disocvery too.

I think that instead of removing it from the mod, wer can make its weps impossible to unmount. So poeple dont mount its weps on other ship.

The reason why many people (including myself) are mounting its weps on Battleships is because battleship weapons sucks. They use too much power for the punch they give.
I remember when the ossiris turrets did a damage of 1600 at 2.0 firerate with a decent power usage. Now, they use too much power. Even a stock ossiris runs out of power after a few shots.

I allways thought that BS weapons should do ENORMOUS, almost insane, ammounts of damage. Because they are battleships. They have turrets almost the size of a fighter, power generators far bigger than those of fighters (even bigger than the fighter itself)... And still, some fighter weapons do more damage than their BS counterparts. WTF!?!? :crazy:
Its the most annoying thing in the universe being defeated by a $ 4.000.000 slipstream when you are on board of a $ 200.000.000 battleship just because you run out of energy every time you shoot more than 3 times at it. And it is also annoying havin your shields being depleted by a fighter in less than 10 seconds, when it is supposed that the fighter has 1/100 of the power output of a BS.

--I think that the weakest BS weapon should do twice the damage of the most powerful fighter weapon. And the BS should not run out of power that fast. It should be able to fire constantly for at least 1 minute with the most powerful weps available.

--Shileds should be twice as strong as they are now. And they should regenerate much faster. The shield design of current BS is based on fighter shields. I guess that the people who created the BS mod (which is integrated on discovery if im right) just took a champion shield and increased its max capacity. So actual BS shields are not designed for BS's, but are just overpowered fighter shields.

--Hull strenght is fine.

--Power output should be increased a lot. It is supposed that a BS has a power generator capable of powering up a Warp drive (suggested by the SP campaign, where the ossiris takes you to toledo. As you know there is no JH to toledo in the original Freelancer. So i suppose that the BS has its own warp drive), which is supposed to use far more power that all weapons. So the warp core should generate enough power to run the engine for a lot of time. Let alone using that core to power up the weapons, which consume much less power than the engines. And as you know, most sci-fi ships take its combat energy from the warp core...

--Maneuverability is fine as it is now. But if it has to be decreased for correcting the mass problem of current BS's, then make it so.

So thats why people use MF weps on battleships. To make battleship LOOK like battleships. Not just big, expensive, unamenuverable fighters, with poor power output...

An alien looking craft outside of freelancer is useful and offers something to those that like being different. But something needs to be done regarding its weapons.

The strong chain gun is x2 stronger then the codenames but also needs x2 the energy, the energy drain keeps this from being used by every fighter. The turret is similar but because it can be mounted on cap ships and is stronger than any of the cap ship guns makes this setup popular and powerful.

Is there a way to make the guns permanently mounted to the flyer?

I think reducing the turret's damage to a range typical for a fighter turret or codename would also stop the problem.

Strong Codename say is roughly 2800 hull/s, 1400 shield/s at 500 energy/s
Flyer Turret is currently 5000 hull/s, 2500 shield/s at 1000 energy/s. Cut the damage numbers in half and reduce the energy to 750 energy/s should make it tempting for fighters since the damage is better than the Skyblast B but they'll have to balance their energy.

Thats what I think too. It looks badly made and is ncompletely unbalancing the game. We keep the mod as close to FL ships as we can. Huegenot is near the line there but I think it should stay after we balance it up a bit. The marsflyer just doesn't look like anything from the original FL at all.

I liked the looks of some of the ships that Denier posted as an alternative for the marsflyer and I think we should consider them, they looked well done.

I voted to keep it, its not such a bad thing to have it, hell ive seen 1 Marsflyer in the past month, that was a different player...seriously it doesn't really impact Discovery that much, Nova Torpedoes make more of an impact that the Mars flyer.
