question about Hi Ping

Hi all, my E machine crashed hard in September. I finally am able to replace it, from having to use my 9 year old laptop.
I had ordered the computer last night, using the laptop, Unfortunately, the laptop's hard drive crashed this morning before I had a chance to do anything, so I have ordered another hard drive for it, both are due for delivery next tuesday.

For now, i am using my Wife's pride and joy, (Her G-5 Mac), but there is no freelancer for MAC so far...seen and read a lot of the forums for mac clamoring for a freelancer to play.

A question to the forums, does a computer speed affect the ping for the server?

I am now on Satellite Internet, and the first thing I noticed was my Ping was up there. Hamburg Freelancer is the worst at 1700

{I like playing there without any mods} and they kick me now everytime I try to play there for Hi Ping.

Discovery rp and pvp are abut 1200

Im laggy sometimes, somtimes i'm fine.

and then and can a computer's hi ping crash the server?

that is part of the question, I am going from a 900 mhz laptop to the new one, a dual core 2.5(???)Ghz.

will this improve my ping by lessoning it or is it something else like just the fact i'm on satellite Internet.

and can that Hi Ping crash the server?

I hate to be the cause of it crashing, if there is nothing I can do about it.

Hi Ping won't crash the server. At the worst, it will lag the server. Chances are though, only YOU will lag. With a net connection like that and a computer like that you should be OK. I get a ping of somewhere around 100 (which is fine for Freelancer) with a .5 meg connection(I think... No one ever has given me a convincing answer).

Sorry Nerf, did you say you were on a satellite connection ? The ones with the built in 1500 ping, before you
start anything else ? Connection speed is not an issue, your method is for gaming.
Ask Mal 666 about good old satellite, trade, and nothing else ...

it's the sat internet. yes you have a high transfere speed but there is a lag involved with the sat responce time. Every sat connection has it that I have ever used (my old setup, my father-in-law and my dad). I am not sure that there is a way to speed it up, it is the reason I don't have sat internet.
