It can be that this is allready somewere in the forum but i cant get it in my mind why gunboats are so easy to kill with fighter and/or Transports (havy/super heavy) dont get me wrong a bomber i get it why, but fighters? They are suposed to be good at intercept bombers or other fighters not to go and shoot things biger then them self exept to slow down the movement.

And transports. ok the most of them are no problem at all (small/ middle ) but the big ones even they have not the bigest guns i know but some of them have many and can give a bad burn over a short time,still killable do but wtf a gunboat should not have so much effort to blow them up. (and again fighters seems to have no problem with that)

Possible solutions with the fighter problem

1. Get rid of gunboats and/or call them heavy transports
2. Get them better / more AA (anti air, i know bad name for a space sim) guns (faster speed long range possible splash dmg) so they can be more efficient in fights agianst fighters
3. Nerf shields from all the fighters it cant be that they have better shields than a "big" Warship / or buff gunboat shields

Possible solutions with the Transports

Longer range for the gunboat guns and razor or nerf for the transports guns in range (btw they also leak a good AA solution)


yeah i know this topic has a whiney vibe to it, but think about it, when u see a some hessen player fighters blow up a rheinland / corsiar gunboat esscort

cant wait for the haters ;P

Gunboats are overpowered ships that only require you to '1-2' to kill a fighter.

Make sure you know how to fly them properly before making a thread about balance.

Compared to .85, the only universal changes done to them was their shields getting nerfed, and gunboat missiles not doing any hull damage.

Other than that, we have turret zoom and steering now, you can do a lot more damage if you learn how to use them properly, compared to .85.

So no, gunboats are fine.

Gunboats are better than they used to be despite the nerfs from last version, because of turret steer. If you don't use it, you'll find that gunboats are more fragile than they used to be and "useless".

The heavier transports are also meant to be able to protect themselves against lone gunboats. Transports such as the Shire and Bison, and some Liners as well.

The only thing I have trouble with versus snubs is the shots all come down to a single pin-point, and if the crosshair is off the target a leeetle bit then all of the shots miss the target. A small amount of spread at the crosshair would be a big help--if I get the crosshair exact they will all hit, but if there is a little change then one or two might still hit. Also, inb4lrn2aim -- these are supposed to be anti-snub ships and the firing pattern should reflect that.

Overall they are fine though.

GBs are fine. They are far from useless, with the turret steering fixed they would work perfect as designed.

For some reason I always found gunboats useless. They're too multi-purpose, thus they don't excel at any given task as well as a designated fighter / bomber / cruiser does.

Trying to satisfy every aspect of the market leaves you to none of them being fully satisfied ))) So it all depends on picking the right ship at the right time.

They suck. I pwned a tridente in a HF last night. I just kept spaming mini/debs, and missiles. All the turrets fell off, and it died.He was turret steering, but in off hours when missiles actually work? No chance. 2 mini's and and a couple debs no more shields. Then missiles pop off turrets,and thruster. BOOM! no more Tridente.
The lack of missiles and shields are death to them. GB turrets just do not got the range needed if you stay at range if your sniping them.
