The phantoms were more of a 4.84 faction for the admins to unwind if anything. The RP is alot more tight knit nowadays, and there's too many loose ends in that old shipwreck.
Let it rest, the Phantoms are gone and its good that way. The idea behind them was a nice one, but it just didnt fit into Disco as it is now. Any attempts to revive it can be done with every other ID, that doesnt have the 'I kill you because I can' line in it. Same goes for the ships, you dont need them to create a new faction, nor am I sure if you really want them once you flew them for a while.
Question: what did /you/ do to try and revive it? (or, at the time, keep it afloat)
Nothing. He wasn't around at the time. He didn't have to do anything, either.
If you see a ship with Phantom technology or IDs, simply report it. That's kind of the end of the discussion.

Del wrote the last faction status that was live before the disbanding. Basically by himself, I think.

Not exactly. Back in the good ol' days of 4.7X there were only lawful factions, so Kane (before he became an admin) worked with (I think) VladiC to make the Phantoms. I joined shortly after. Basically they were designed to fill the role was empty. The pirate and general bad guy.
