We like to explore. One way or another, there's always that sense of wanting to know what is over that hill, or on the other side of that forest.
Yet Discovery somewhat lacks that sense of exploration. 2 years ago when it was released that is, now it lacks it completely unfortunately.
This has led to plenty of folk, such as myself, being not so enthusiastic about the mystery's of Discovery.
We've seen it all, played through all the factions and ships and while we do enjoy roleplaying in different groups, the excitement of sheer discovery and the veneer of mystery is now gone.
The issue of exploration based factions, such as Zoners, IMG and the Order suffer from this too.
Discovery, and Freelancer, also lacks any kind of real 'expanded universe' type lore.
We know nothing of the companies throughout Sirius, of the actual ship manufacturers, the various planet based cars and ships, the systems existing just outside the jump network and of the merely interesting things in Sirius.
Whilst the first few are things we could address over time, the systems issue is something that affects gameplay and it's something I'm interested in addressing.
So what if a thread opened in the communication channel forum, offering to sell the co-ordinates to new, mysterious and un-explored systems?
And all you had to do was download the files, copy/paste and activate via FLMM?
Would you be interested or is it simply a waste of time?
You could tell me where jumpholes in Kansas and Puerto Rico are.:P
I'm still exploring, but i find it a bit sad, that only important routes have bases along them. If you fly to a far away planet you just get not a single other thing out there...

I agree. Would be exiting to see more foreign space with nice stuff to discover (non-lootable things). It would increase the RP possibilities for using a Kusari Explorer for example. Adding a system where the nav map doesn't work and, like before all the scanners has been built, searching for things with the human/alien/AI sense to find your way through a system. Sounds nice. A system where only the people/creatures with the best instincts and/or intelligent conclusions can get through or out, depends. Something like a maze with gifts of information at a corner there or at the ground there. A bit more puzzling challenges...something Disco could need a bit more imho.
Just as a note, this is for pre-4.86.
I'm talking about releasing the first group of systems this week.
May have different sets of them, so folks can choose which system 'co-ordinates' they want to buy.

Amazing idea. Just one problem. The prices. A faction with their financial abilities could just buy them all while a normal freelancer who actually goes discovering most likely wouldn't be able to purchase more than one or two. So for all the biggies it would be an insta-achievement and all the others who actually want to go exploring would have to work forever to get the stuff and when they finally get there it's all known and discovered. The idea is awesome and it would most likely revive a lot. But then again it doesn't really support those it's meant to reach.
Anyone has an idea how to solve that problem? If so: Please post it. As the idea itself is the best thing I've heard in months.

Only the "buy" confuses me a bit.
I'd like to avoid this being a purely OOC venture and would like to bring some proper roleplay into it.
Whilst this does mean I would have to tailor each set of files to the buyer, it'd be easy enough to do.
I would imagine the price wouldn't be anything much, something like 30-40 million for a system or 3, and I'd do something a bit special for more organised entities such as the IMG/Zoners/Order/Other groups who are interested in buying.
One other note, you won't be able to use these files on the server.
While they won't get you kicked or banned, you wouldn't be able to get to the systems.
Mostly because they aren't connected to the jumphole network but also because the server itself won't have the systems in it's files, so it'll just say access denied if there was a jumphole.
If you want to play the systems with your buddies, simply fling up a basic server. Really quite simple and I think there's information on these forums about how to do it. I may be wrong but simply running FLServer (Which is in your FREELANCER/EXE folder) should do the trick.
Depending on what effect different system files would have on the main server, it may be possible to use these on the main server. So everyone could play together. That'll need to wait on the server guru's wisdom though.
