They support terrorists against the houses (Molly's? GC?) and every big drug dealer has lawyers and a desire to manipulate the system.
very good point, thank you for that...
however most outcasts are simple thugs, (admittedly rather stylish ones, but thugs none the less) who do their don's bidding and that is all. however i do agree with you in most respects.
im not against the idea at all, and i love a bit of corruption and intrigue, however it probably wouldn't have the teeth to be effective (affecive???? i can never remember) and wouldn't be able to enforce its rulings.
Make it realistic; only have the 4 main houses (Liberty, Rheinland, Bretonia, Kusari). There's no way that corporations (which make up the rest of the lawful factions for the most part) and pirates would join in the same court as the government of the houses. The corporations should be represented by the government of the house in which they are based (ex. Republican Shipping and Daumann would be represented by Rheinland) unless that corporation is being prosecuted.
' Wrote:Nice idea anyway - imo it should be a Liberty-based court - much like the court in Strasbourg - human rights, war crimes etc... Not many recognize it, (because frankly the court shouldn't be recognized) but still the world powers like the US and Europe make puny lil' dictators like Saddam or Milosevic stand before it.
Milosevic was not in Strasbourg, he was in Hag court.:P

"The Outcasts conduct a lucrative drug smuggling operation, using a network of secret jump holes to escape detection and transport their product into the hearts of Bretonia, Rheinland, and Liberty. Their primary partners in crime are the poorly organized and not-to0-quick Liberty Rogues, who are now addicted to Cardamine and totally dependent on their Outcast masters.
The money is then used to buy power and influence throughout the Sirius Sector. The Outcasts oversee a shadowy network of bribes and blackmail that rises to the highest levels of government, and through which they can stifle potential competition or stonewall the authorities."
Anyone saying an Outcast or other unlawful doesn't care about lawful political bodies isn't trying to RP enough.
And simple thugs might carry out orders, but they're not fools. They have sensibilities. Everyone has a political slant. Poorly educated soldiers in Iraq might not call the shots but the all have ideas and opinions about why they're there. You gotta give your characters a motivation beyond bloodshed and greed. There can't be that many sociopaths in the universe.

Sadly my funky friend my experience of real life has lead me to believe there are rather a lot of these. Now i have a political slant on my own life but many people don't, a lot have a simple 'us vs them' approach to things which is what makes things spiral towards violence. This is what creates people like the Cray brothers (London gangsters in the 1960's. now mast outcasts are simple folk much like those who live on planets like Manhattan. It just so happens that their 'government' likes to deal in drugs. how many people do you know who are just mindlessly patriotic in the face of overwhelming moral objection for no political reason whatsoever, and would therefore hurl themselves into a fight hating the person they are told is their enemy 'cos someone told them it was the right thing to do for their country.
I guess I just have a slightly more negative view of humanity than you do.
I can appreciate that someone roleplaying a more intelligent or high ranked outcast would care about house politics cos it pays for them to do so.
rant over.
ps. Parliament rule and Bootsy is the funkiest individual alive.

You should see me with a few drinks in me after a college poli sci class... you think you're dark and cynical...

The other thing is that this is a game, a fiction, and as such shouldn't it be a bit more fun and sophisticated than our rather plain real lives? Sci-fi movies and spy thrillers and the like all layer on the intrigue and deeper plot, so why is it so hard for others to do the same for their own character? Its hard to write a good backstory for your character but it shouldn't be that hard to at least follow the currents of your pre-written faction outline. Be devious, don't just be another teenager from Kentuky with an M4, cause you could do that in real life anyway. Be something fun and different. I'm left wing at heart but I'm 2nd in charge of one of the largest (and probably soon to be slightly more corrupt) shipping corporations in Sirius.

I'm English. Guns like that are illegal here.

Not really, I just know enough people who have ended up in the forces for reasons they thought were great and then realized were simple, idiotic, thoughtless patriotism.
But back on the subject of the Sirius Courts, how would we make it so that it can enforce its rulings?I mean its gotta have teeth right?
PS im a lefty as well but i play a aggressively capitalist, exploitative, drug dealing, murderous a**hole
Well, I can see the Hogosha taking part in this sort of thing, definitely. They'd be paying the Kusari reps off.
IMG would be there, as it is effectively an independent littlle nation, as would the GMG. The Zoners might... it's unknown.
The Mollies would be there, sort of like what is going on with Israel and Palestine at Annapolis.
The Outcasts, I could see joining, saying 'We won't smuggle drugs if the following things can be assured...' They would then, after their assurances were met, smuggle drugs.
The Order would be represented, lambasting Liberty for having laboratories with live Nomad experiments.
The Corsairs might be there with a more pragmatic Elder. Arguments like 'The Order don't see our Artifacts as dangerous, so they should be legalised, which would cut our reliance on interdiction and privateering.' possibly showing up.
The Gaians would stand outside, handing out leaflets to the public, and maybe plotting to kill any Bretonian reps.
The SCRA would get an invite but laugh. They'd either not turn up or they'd bomb the proceedings.:P
I can't read this trash...You people would rather stay on a forum <strike>bitching</strike> arguing and complaining in a "Court" than auctually play the game?
If everyone who uses the forums were instead playing the auctual game, I would auctually have more fun in the game. There is almost never a fight in the game to be had. And when there is, it is mostly a 1 on 1 match. :(
EDIT: To add to my first sentence, The court would act as an excuse to flame and complain. People may end up getting so caught up in the "court" that they play the game less... The Admins basicly take care of the international law...
