Really only been in any form of contact with him a few times, but from what I gathered he was a great and wonderfully kooky old dude with a terrific offbeat sense of humor which makes him quite alright in my book.
If there's an afterlife, I hope he's there playing Freelancer 2 or something better.

I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us, and part of us remains. Go anywhere where it is quiet, and just listen. After a while you will the echoes of all our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Long after we are gone our voices will linger in this world.
SAINT THE MARY - Discordian Saint, Second Class, and Keeper of the Holy Chao Belly
by Reverend Loveshade - Episkopos of the Discordian Division of the Ek-sen-triks CluborGuild
When contemplating things contrary,
One must consider well The Mary.
Not Virgin, Bloody, or Ginger's friend Ann,
But Saint Second Class, Discordian.
While others preach monogamy,
She all at once wed husbands three.
While most brides wear a wedding gown,
This bride and grooms and guests stripped down.
But grooms were not her consummaters--
She longed, instead, to master bettas.
She ate no fish, but fish she bred,
And got her monkey, stuffed, in bed.
And then to make herself more yummy,
She pierced her paps, tattooed her tummy.
The Sacred Chao her belly hosts,
And each who rubs it, hell, 'e boasts!
So when greyfaces force the rules,
When grid-locked minds curse popes as fools,
Expose your belly, rub, don't tarry,
Proclaim it hers with 'Hail The Mary!'
I've known Doug since day-one of his time at Discovery, and he was the most unique and imaginative individual I've ever known. And every time I left Disco, he was the reason I kept coming back.
Now he's passed on and the world's that little bit more drab. Every time I see a slightly yellow apple I'll think of Mal. Sorely missed, sorely missed.
I have been gone for the better part of a year. Work, moving, computer meltdowns... pick an excuse. I get an email from Mal telling me to get my butt back on the server today... and I find he's taken the long journey. I am sad. I am sitting here in shock, because I kinda felt like Doug was well... immortal.
I know, I know... naive of me. I came to Disco about 4 years ago, Doug (Mal) was the very first one to take me under his wing. He was my friend and mentor. He taught me and supported me. I loved him.
I'm sad because I miss my teacher. I'm sad because life is too short. Mostly I'm just sad.
It was an honor being a part of his life here on Disco. And I am humbled by the impact he has had on so many lives here.
Thank you, Doug...
And thank you all for your kind words. TAZ will be preparing something special for him. We'll let you know.
