On player built stations. How is that gonna work. Will you buy on a planet and select location for it? or will it be built piece by piece like in Eve? And will they be destructible?
This is going to be probably the biggest (And greatest) RP development as of yet since factions will constantly be trying to destroy their enemies bases. The events will be endless.
' Wrote:Development never ends. We can always incorporate new soundtracks in future versions. Development cycles for future versions are going to be a lot shorter. 4.86 taking so damn long was a misstake, one that'll not likely be repeated.
Question to the dev here, will using a non-green ship affect energy or is it just guns?
Also in general, are weapons going to take up space in the cargo hold even when equipped?
' Wrote:We'll be putting in a flhook to reduce energy regeneration for players using technology they are not green to according to their ID.
Are you going to do this for white/purple/red or just green vs not-green? Just wondering about implementeation here, maybe a permitted flag and a penalty flag, where green is permitted with no penalty, white is permitted with penalty, and red is not permitted. You can ave special RP ID that has no privs (cannot attack or trade) and is ~white to everything. Can also set these flags on every weapon and ship if you choose, assuming a lookup exists
' Wrote:no compare it to a vanillla eagle the stats have been changed so its sucks
Just to throw this out there; But all the class 9/10 vanilla ships have been UPGRADED in Discovery, not downgraded. Not to mention the explosive vulnerability has been reduced on them all as well.
Also, Veygaar, what Cannon said was what Cannon wants, yes. The current tech system being worked on is still being worked on, one of the "last projects" so-to-speak. Finding a workable solution that won't result in massive chaos is difficult, but we're working on it. While Cannon is angling for a situation that removes the tech chart rules, the opinion of that being the solution is not universal, and is still being debated. If we can make it work however, that will be great. Details on what -will- be done with tech won't be released until .86 itself is.

[8/14/2011 11:12:08 PM] Matt (Cannon): I guess I can phrase the answer another way.
[8/14/2011 11:12:30 PM] Matt (Cannon): SRPs are coming back but approval from admins or anybody is not required.
[8/14/2011 11:13:05 PM] Caleb Levesque: Ah... so will there be a criteria to fill out then you just post it into the SRP section?
[8/14/2011 11:33:01 PM] Matt (Cannon): No
[8/14/2011 11:33:04 PM] Matt (Cannon): Nothing.
[8/14/2011 11:33:10 PM] Matt (Cannon): Do whatever you like.
[8/14/2011 11:34:31 PM] Caleb Levesque: strange....
[8/14/2011 11:35:05 PM] Caleb Levesque: it will be a madhouse :|
[8/14/2011 11:35:39 PM] Matt (Cannon): Freedom.
[8/14/2011 11:36:07 PM] Caleb Levesque: you think that'll be for the better?
[8/14/2011 11:36:18 PM] Matt (Cannon): Yes
[8/14/2011 11:36:45 PM] Caleb Levesque: there will still be ID restrictions and a tech chart? or no?
[8/14/2011 11:36:59 PM] Matt (Cannon): ID restrictions yes, tech chart no, not really.
[8/14/2011 11:37:29 PM] Matt (Cannon): We are really getting off track. I'm not actually telling you the whole story.
[8/14/2011 11:37:45 PM] Caleb Levesque: ah... so theres more?
[8/14/2011 11:37:48 PM] Matt (Cannon): Will SRPs reopen = no never.
[8/14/2011 11:37:54 PM] Matt (Cannon): This is 100% true.
[8/14/2011 11:38:41 PM] Caleb Levesque: so pretty much.. anyone who can come up with a RP story will have nomnom guns and inferno's?
...and then there was silence :|
This is more like turning into PVP server... 1stly mining reduced(which dramasticly reduced player count), secondly the re-engagement rule doesnt apply anymore, and now this?
What the hell, disco was way better a year ago... just sayin
Quote:Well, you can mount them on your ship. Doesn't mean that mix-and-match tech will make you a PvP monster. We'll be putting in a flhook to reduce energy regeneration for players using technology they are not green to according to their ID. That way you have a choice: If you -want- to roleplay being a Red Hessian that stole a Titan and hunted himself a bag of Nomad guns, you can do so - just don't expect that combination to be any good in a fight as it'll take your energy a lot longer to recharge.
Do you know how many people that will stop?
None.
For balance issues, eh it doesnt really matter, people are still people and skill is skill, like most battles, skill will decide the match (unless its a Kusari Explorer, lol)
But if this happens RP will be extremely reinvigorated and I may have to stop trolling completely.
Seriously...
Just wow.
Quote:Also, Veygaar, what Cannon said was what Cannon wants, yes
Cannon is my new besty, seriously this makes up for even a terrible, terrible, disgusting mistake like Cruise drain.
' Wrote:No, just putting in a counterbalance to prevent folk from taking the best guns and the best ship, and creating an overpowered combination from that as a result. A long overdue balance check, nothing more. For people who don't do spray and pray very little changes. For folk using debs and codes, or bomber weapons only, nothing changes. For folk who take, say, a black dragon and tizonas on a pirate ID, it'll impact quite a bit. For folk who on an IMG ID fly with Magma Hammers and a Karasu, it'll impact quite a bit as well.
Folk claiming to want tech for RP reasons (which is always the excuse) got no point to whine about this as it won't impact the roleplay. Weapons do the same damage, ships have the same cargo space and maneuvering speeds. Just the energy recharge is slower. Folk wanting tech for PVP advantages or getting around ZoI restrictions are frankly, out of luck, as pure PvP tends to rely on energy.
Which is why all weapons of the same type need to be equal so this wouldn't be an issue and people would prefer to choose guns for RP reasons anyway, but I digress.
