Mendel shot her in the leg.

"Wrong song, Comrade." He stated, "start again. Make it up if you have to."

She moans as the bullet enter on a side of her leg and exits the other side.

"Da, Comrade Commisar."

And she starts to sing again with a trembling voice.

"Through days dark and stormy where Great Katz led us

Vladimir listened to the inherent moaning coming from next door, as the sounds of a woman strangling a set of bagpipes droned into his room.

"Compared to her. At least you can sing. Congratulations, you're now part of the SCRA's choir boys club. A person such as you will probably earn the nickname... "wife".. Ah ha!"

He stuck the shotgun in the recruit's face.

"Or is that what you want? To be bent over and humiliated? Or do you want more? What drives you in here to my mad house?!"

The shotgun was at the bridge of the recruits nose, and Vladimir grinned as he pushed him back against the wall with it.

Nikolai took a deep breath. Now it was really hard to ignore the shotgun as the barrel was sitting on his nose. With just one punch the commissar would be able to break his nose, leaving another scar in Chevchenko's face.

"No, comrade commissar! To be honest, I would not have to leave Volgograd to be a 3rd class singer in a Coalition choir. I also could bombard you with senseless phrases now. But I think you don't need to hear patriotic nonsense all day...what not means I am not here to represent the Coalition and it's ideals. But I am also here to do what I always wanted: fight, get some payback and put those Alliance fools a bit of their capitalism into their butts!"

Thinking about the past he even managed to forget the shotgun in his face for one moment. They took his parents, so it is time to get some of them. Quite simple in his eyes...

Vladimir's tone turned more sympathetic.

"Revenge is a powerful motive. Anger gives you focus, makes you sharper, it provides that edge. It gives you that single minded determination which is required in all fighter pilots."

His voice then hardened again.

"It also clouds your judgement, makes you undertake rash decisions and your emotions will get in the way of getting the job done. To make me understand which category to put in, explain your situation. Do I put you in Category A - "Suicidal Maniac who gets his unit killed" or Category B - "Suicidal maniac who will get himself killed in a blaze of glory"

He yabbed the shotgun under his the recruits chin.

"Choose wisely."

Slightly surprised about the commisar's reaction, especially the fact that he did not instantly shot Nikolai, he thought for a moment. His situation...that was a good quesion, and a difficult choice to make.

"My situation? On the first view it may sound simple and slightly stereotyped. The young son of two soldiers who lost both in a cowardly attack of those Alliance pigs. Some would say "That's war" now, others would even say "we would have done the same" but okay. Back then I had no time to thin about such irrelevant things. The Coalition helped me to manage my childhood, and I learnt what it means to do his part in the great system. It was a hard time, but all that steeled my body, and my mind...so I don't think I am that what you would call a typical maniac at all. But to answer your question: If it would be needed I would die for my comrades and the Coalition. But I would marry Queen Carina before causing another comrade's death, if you understand what I mean. There are times where I have to do more important things than fulfilling what I promised. I am not here to be a...how do they call it out there...? A 'Rambo', yeah. I am here to adapt myself into the system and serve the Coalition...that I will get some payback is just a nice side effect"

Nikolai grins a bit, but switches to a serious face as there is still an unpredictable commisar in front of him...and a shotgun under his face.

Vladimir removed the shotgun from the recruits chin and hit it across the side of his head, knocking the recruit towards the door.

"I send hundreds of boys like you into battle. All with a point to prove, all with a story. All with a stupid grin on their face. You know what comes back? Parcels. Not fun ones from Stalin Claus, but ones containing your rubbish remains."

His stared at the recruit.

"I think you'll be designated "Crewman 6" by your fellow pilots. I doubt you'll last long in the food halls, let alone space. Especially when fatty out there goes to Dinner - He's likely to crush you as you both go get desert. Now, get out my sight."

He threw some papers at the recruit.

a new recruit enters the waiting room,

he looks a bit confused when he heard singing from the commisar's office.

as he goes to sit down on a chair he notices how several bodies are dragged out of the commisar's room..

(in a whispering tone) hmm i wont end up like them

Though he got hit by the shotgun at his head Nikolai did not feel the pain in this moment. Grabbing the papers he left the commisar's office, mumbling a "Spazibar Commisar" while leaving.

But right as he left the office a proud grin set down on his face while looking at the other recruits and walking out of the recruitment office.
