Quote:The Armed Forces have barely 30 battleships remaining in their possession along with under 500 destroyers and gunboats, and some 70,000 fighters and bombers. Against them, Gallia has well over 150 battleships, nearly 2,000 smaller capital ships, and 125,000 strike craft in Tau systems and Edinburgh alone, with more reinforcements still coming through Orkney. To try and boost their numbers BMM is working at well over normal capacity in Southampton to produce new ships, whilst bringing any available old decommissioned warships back into service, salvaging parts from the Southampton debris field. At the same time, the BAF is converting many civilian vessels into military craft and a sizeable Space Volunteer Corps of over 20,000 civilian fighters has been formed to supplement the regular BAF as auxiliaries to defend their homeland.
Quote:The ronin have 5 battleships, 10 Destroyers and 25 Gunboats and a handful of fighter and bomber wings. While they don't pose a serious threat to Gallic forces in Tau-31, they have a potential to become an important part of Bretonia's defense during the forthcoming war.
That's the military situation in bretionia'¦.
Capitaliwize, overwhelmed, but its been Bretonia's long policy to not engage Capitals without very good odds, they fight a war of attrition. For that war of attrition, they have some 70 thousand regulars and 20 thousand irregulars against some 125 thousand Gallic fighters..not exactly horrible odds, though.
The 'capitals- That the ronin can bring to the table can affect the bretonian side of the equation, but they're still losing hard in that position, while the fightercraft..only shift the odds a little.
What I'm ilustrating here, Pancakes, is that, in terms of capital craft, Bretonia is going to lose. Period. No matter what. In point of fact, Leeds is going to be the subject of orbital bombardment and space to ground seige (do we have any idea how that's going to work?) Bretonia is falling back, largely, to NL, letting the mollys handle Dublin, which means they've some large amount of capitalcraft to drop on that border...the largest miltiary buildup in the history of the war, as Jammi stated. In the system of Leeds, where the snub war is to take place, its roughly 150 thousand resupplied fighters vs 90 thousand of dubious re-supply, and, hey, 5k or less Ronin...its a losing war, yes.
But just because its a losing war does not mean bretonia is going to be particularly interested in doing anything but using the Ronin as a meatsheild.
Again, though, why are they the Ronin? They -have- the emporer.

Ok, so Kogen does not see himself as Emperor anymore, he feels he was put out of power, and that this is the process of changing government. He feels it was done in a very dishonest way, but he does not have some delusion that he is still Emperor. The Exiles do not have a master as in a House they are loyal to. That is where the Ronin name comes in, it might not be a perfect name, but I think it fits well and works.
One of the things we have to remember is that the new Kusari government is essentially supported by the Gallic government, in that the Royals allow them to exist. I would assume that the Royals would be much more inclined to have the new Kishiro backed government in place than allow for the old Imperial regeim to rise, seeing as they are swong enemies of the old Emperor. As such, we can conclude that Gallia will not allow a coup by the old Emperor in Kusari to happen, meaning that the Ronin need to drive back the Gallic forces and remove Gallia's ability to reach Kusari space if they even think about trying to reclaim Kusari. Because of this, I think it's very good that this factions goals are directly aimed at fighting the Gallic invasion, as opposed to being a resistance movement in Kusari.
Also, may I suggest shortening your goals to
1) Restoring the Emperor to power in Kusari
2) Fighting the Gallic invasion in the Taus and Bretonia
just to simplify things.
Also, ZoI seems fine to me. I honestly don't know what half those Tau systems are, but my guess is that they won't have anyone in them most of the time.
I'm very dissapointed that this will be a closed faction. That's an entirely different topic, of course, about what indies do for factions, and na na nah.
How will applications be managed?
And, point of interest, how will the faction be closed? New npc faction?

There will not be a new NPC faction, but instead a Ronin ID.
Application procedures are being worked on at the moment, but I am fairly certain that priority will be given to KNF players who wish to have their characters defect, but they will be required to make a new character for the KNF. We dont want to take the entire KNF playerbase and leave the KNF dead.
As to the issue of the faction being closed, it was a very hard choice for me, and I was really divided so I asked some other admins for their input and this is what it came to. The problem is that this faction is very specific in the number of ships and things that are available by the storyline. Making the faction open would make it impossible to keep the numbers in check and would threaten to create problems that would drastically effect the mod storyline. I was very hesitant to make this choice, because I do believe indies provide something very important for factions, but in this case it would have made it way to hard to operate the faction.

Wrong.
There is a Ronin NPC faction in 4.86.
Try have Ronin Battleships without a Ronin Tag.
No workey.

There are Ronin NPCs, Ronin tagged bases and a Ronin ID in 4.86.
Just a quick bit of information from the dev side of things.

Well then that changed since the last time I talked to Cannon about it. If there are Ronin NPCs and a Ronin ID, great, it will still be a closed faction. The old plan was that we would be using the KNF IFF. And since there was no ticket for it, and no thread on the Dev forums about it, just how was I supposed to know that?
The NPC faction should help out and the ID will stop nasty issues with diplomacy.
Question though, I thought all the faction posts for Gallia factions were locked before 4.85 was released?

Ask someone about it. I'd be happy to help. Or stay in the dev chat instead.
