[color=#6666CC][font=Palatino Linotype]"Y'know the stomach would suffer a lot if you relieve stress by drinking a bottle all alone everytime this situation happens, needless to mention the medical tests. And believe me, facting desperate punks such as Outcasts and Rogues during shifts is quite normal, but once you find a decent alternative to forget whatever crap happened during a patrol, it will be all fine and dandy." He glanced at the officer with the pile of paperwork with him, then took another gulp from the bottle and kept it for himself.

[color=#6666CC][font=Palatino Linotype]"Well, there you see people who are even chained to pen and holo-paper after a bad day, but guess it's not your situation right now aye? By the way, is that tattoo real or just product of marketing-monkeys? Yeah, the one you showed in that TV ad... Oh wait, just a sec..." The trash can rolled once again next to Ashfield, poking his feet. He kicked it energically, hitting a stool which collapsed. [color=#6666CC][font=Palatino Linotype]"Ach, apologies!" He said to the bartender as he got up to place the stool back in the correct position.

"Probably was Sir. I'd prefer not to find out myself, it's just too detached for my liking."She responded distractedly, one ear still tuned into the conversation across the room. What little she picked up was enough to send a shiver of trepidation running down her spine. Hearing the Douglas and heavy casualties mentioned in the same breath didn't bode well. She turned in the direction of the sound, and found herself looking into the all-too-familiar eyes of the desk-jockey. The Ex-Marine blinked slowly, her face a mask. Not here. As if to answer her, a waiter returned to the table ferrying a bottle. From the look of the thing, it would be well beyond sailor'€™s wages. She only knew one person in the Navy who'€™d order such things.

Suddenly her Naval career felt a lot less certain. Even so, the Douglas... She''€™d known a lot of good people on that ship. She bought the glass to her lips, downing the rest of the clear liquid.

"If you''€™ll excuse me Sir." She was moving before Lewis could respond, weaving her way around the toppling bar staff. Her heels slid together with an audible click as she reached the desk-officer'€™s table, snapping to attention, the view of the man from the side confirming what she'€™d suspected. Normally she would have heisted to give a paper-pusher the time of day. Then again, this was hardly a normal situation.

"Lieutenant Commander. I didn'€™t expect to see you here Sir." She'd hoped not to meet this particular officer for a good few months, and with good reason. Remus Sius had the ability to send her application down the tube with a few words in the right ears. Naval Detention Centres were not her idea of a good time. It was doubtful that he would, but the Officer had shown himself to be anything but predictable. Her heart sank when she saw the forms on his desk. It didn'€™'t matter what service you were in, those gilded envelopes were something no-one ever wanted to receive. It is with great regret that I write to inform you...'€¦ Hartman pulled her gaze from the text. She didn'€™'t need to read anymore, she knew full well how the sentence finished. Anyone who had ever worn a uniform did. She stood in silence for a moment, a familiar numbness seeping through her, an automatic reaction to what her mind was processing. So many names. Three years ago the 4th Regiment had been posted to the Douglas. She wondered if there'd still been any members of her old unit on board. Not that brooding on it did them any good.

"What happened?"

The amount of casualties in the Navy this month had risen unexpectedly and the brass needed someone to take care of preparing all these papers and send them on their way home; admittedly, Remus didn't like the thought of delivering all these papers. But since nobody took the initiative and to possibly get away from the all the fighting around Liberty, he decided to step up and do the job.

"Sir, I think you've caught the attention of one of 'em.", said Barnes as he looked around to see Jane standing up. Remus merely stayed calm.

As if according to plan, Barnes stood up and took half of the stack of papers from the table.
"Best of luck to ya'. ", winked Barnes as he left the bar.

"Lieutenant Commander. I didn'€™t expect to see you here Sir.", said a woman's voice whom Remus recognized. He looked up to see Jane in civilian attire. The look on her face was wasn't what Remus was expecting... but then he realized the forms on his table and the words that he carelessly slipped out.

"What happened?", asked Jane. To which Remus smiled.
"Oh my... I didn't expect you to come over here.", he then looked at the forms on the table.

"Dear oh dear.. these aren't from the Douglas. The top brass just decided to give me some homework to do. Everything's fine onboard the Douglas. She's stationed on relaying duty around Houston. Please have a seat.", he said with a reassuring tone and gesturing towards the bench opposite of him.

"I guess that answered my question..." She thought while she watched Ashfield placing the stool back in position. He sat back at his place and Cahoone emptied the rest of the bottle.

"Well, rarely happens that I end up in a bar after a patrol. I usually find something else to relax, today was just way too stressful for me. By the way, nice hit with that trash can." She looked at the trash can, it had taken damage from the treatment it received today. Natalie grinned. "And that tattoo is real, got it like three years ago when I turned eighteen. I like it and it's also quite important for me. Want to know what it symbolizes for me ?"

[color=#6666CC][font=Palatino Linotype]"Sure, go ahead. It's always good to know the wingmates who could take part of a patrol squadron or something like that, you know, maybe that stuff of better coordination that teachers preach about at West Point is actually correct." He leaned back on his seat again, looking at Lewis and the other lass. Maybe Ashfield just figured out a way to cheer up the place.

"Glad to hear it Sir." Heartless it might have been, but Jane was grateful the Douglas had survived another day. It did little for the crews of the destroyed ships, but not knowing their names helped her to distance herself from the dead. Once her own apathy would have worried her. Now, it was simply another way to stay sane. If she died that day she wouldn't have expected anything more. Reluctantly she pulled out the bench, taking a seat opposite the Commander.

No doubt he wanted an explanation. She would have if she'd been in his position. What could she tell him? That she'd been wrong? That Liberty was worth the sacrifice? Partial answers, of course, and no more then a half-baked recruit could have told him. No, it wasn't the time or the place. And she still didn't entirely trust the man before her. Their last meeting had begun with them both pointing guns and each other and Jane wasn't entirely convinced that, if not for the intervention of a certain Marine Colonel, it wouldn't have ended that way too. She met Sius' gaze and simply shook her head, tight-lipped. Explanations would have to wait.

The bench issused a small squeal as Jane shifted, confirming her guess. Metal. At any rate, it was more stable then the bar chairs. A plus, if a small one.

"Didn't expect to see me? Your aide nearly sent me into the top shelf. Last I checked, it's nowhere near late enough for that to look good."

After Hartman's reply, Remus couldn't deny the fact that he'd intentionally wanted to get her attention. He was in fact worried that he'd lost communication with her ever since that last transmission.

"Alright...Alright.... you got me. I -did- expect to see you.. although not here I'm afraid.", Remus straightened his posture. Since that last transmission, he'd been talking to some of his colleagues to "clear" Jane's name from the 'wanted list'. A few recommendation letters here... and a couple of meetings there.... and presto... no more bad record. It is worth mentioning that he didn't do any of that illegal stuff to get the job done. Just that, he'd earned a good enough reputation among the officers of the Secondary Fleet and even more so when he was kidnapped by a 'certain' Junker.

Pushing the last few remaining forms aside, he motioned for the same waiter who brought him his drink before. After a few words, the waiter takes the awfully cold coffee away from the table and refills the Lt Cmdr's glass.

"To be honest, I was beginning to wonder where you went after that chat we had over the comms. And then here are you now, applying to the Primary Fleet."

The would-be Recruit shrugged noncommittally. It had been an awfully long time since they'd last spoken. It'd been a long time since she spoke to a lot of people.

"Yeah. Turns out it ain't as hard to disappear as they make it out to be." Hartman smiled for a moment, letting her Texan accent slip back in. Since she wasn't officially enlisted yet, formality could take a dive out the nearest window. For now, at any rate.
"The old family weren't too keen to see me go, but they didn't make a big deal of it. Not sure how they'll take it if they figure out where I ended up." Probably not well. She added mentally. It wasn't worth worrying about. When you flew under the Navy's banner there were enough people trying to kill you that a few more or less barely registered.

"So, fill me in. I heard we got boots on the Westfalen, are the newshounds having a joke or did we actually pull it off?"The Rheinland Battleship had been a major roadblock to attacks in the area. If they'd managed to take control of it, the war might finally start to go Liberty's way. Assuming the Navy had been able to keep her supplied, battleships weren't exactly economical at the best of times. Speaking of battleships... If meeting Sius here had been unlikely, then the figure seated at the bar was impossible. She shook her head, a chuckle of disbelief escaping through clenced teeth. It had to be a set-up. Still, it wasn't an unwelcome one.

"Major!" She waved, gesturing to a third seat at their table. Just like old times.
"Now, reckon I owe you two a drink."
