I would suggest letting this play out and commenting once we see what it looks like. As it is the interactions between pirates and traders will be changed dramatically and everyone will have to learn new tactics. There is no way at this point to say exactly what this will look like since it will depend largely on how individuals respond to the changes.
Edit: about second - corporates supply military forces all over around, I think according to some instructions corporates may use those big shippies to escort big and serious traders.
Idea: restrict GBs only to official factions? Like Convoy?

Well even companies build destroyers... millitary use them, and if they wanna protection, millitary providing protection. I still think that if you want gunboat to protect trader make indie millitary gb or join official millitary faction, there is no need for corporate gunboats.

you are right, but how to force military escort traders?
The only problem I see arising from corporate IDs using Gunboats is reconciling the ZoI of the corporation with the power of a gunboat, which is normally restricted by the ZoI limitations of the military forces that can use it. Because corporate IDs have pretty much a Sirius-Wide ZoI, a few problems might arise with players using corporate IDs to raid space with gunboats that they most likly should be able to reach. However, this really seems like one of those things where "we should wait and see how it turns out," so overall I enjoy this idea.
Also, if guard IDs are getting removed, I'm very excited to see what happens in terms of Zoners and their large ships.

I love you.
Corporations definitely needed Gunboats in order to deal with multiple pirating bombers/gunboats.

This is usually countered by the manner in which Corporate IDs can engage an enemy (usually only defensively, except for some particularly hated enemies).
Quote:It might get a rename and a more logical sale place though.
Junker Guard ID is getting renamed to Gallic Junker ID, and will only be sold in Gallia.
Junker Guard ID is dropped. Gallic Junkers get their own ID. All guard IDs will be dropped/invalidated (players are requested to switch them to their nonguard versions - yes, even on battleships).
This'll probably be my last update before the release. I have spent the last 6 ish hours working over the IDs from a partially finished, easter egg rich project Dusty was involved in. Sanitizing it and merging it into the DLLs was a royal pain in the rear, but it needed doing. Only thing now is some last minute testing of some of the FLHook items that were not working properly - carrier docking and the jump drive systems mainly. If we can't get em to work, we'll prolly just release with those disabled and fix them later.
Time for some shuteye.
[Edit] Oh, I asked around with some pirate factions? The organized ones are looking forward to a flurry of gunboat-sinking. Bombers have some weapons that are specifically suited for dealing with gunboats.
