We don't need a RL example if you can find many in Discovery already:

Osiris, Spyglass, Hessian forward gun

Oh and You, You never compare FL with earth, your post is so brilliant thanks.

Back on the topic, with the vanilla story, Osiris was stolen by ex-liberty agent who were born there and grow there. I guess stole that tech was really hard, and I CAN compare it with this earth example because first It's was a massive tech step. Second as gallia and liberty, US /CCCP, the two have very few in common ,politic, economy etc etc.

I usually avoid to compare earth and FL, but I do I thinks about it before posting.

Interesting that the Gallic trade lanes seem to operate on a drive on the left system. Its about time the french realised that British were right all along.

Yeah. Who's bright idea was that? Simply unacceptable

My understanding of Gate/Lane tech is that the only reason Ageria can build it is that the DK left behind designs of the stuff.

That's to say, nobody ever researched 'how to do it'. Liberty was handed a technology beyond their understanding in pictures.

That implies that, perhaps, the parts can be looked at and replaced...tada, mass production.

Of course, the way I want to understand it is that liberty was given a way to make a factory for a thing.
And a different thing
and a different thing...

And, as such, looking at the objects wouldn't help reverse engineer them, because the objects themselves don't have to make any damn sense to anyone on the very edges of human science today.

This gives Ageria a better reason to keep them secret than worry about competition, a decent patent law agreement among the houses could do much better, if you could publish the information without, say, breaching the national security curtain around the fact that there's an alien arch teaching Ageria things..

And, to point out, it makes not much sense for there to be laws against subverting the technology and Ageria to go to a great amount of trouble trying to keep it a trade secret. Laws as such are designed to replace trade secrets...

Anyhow, nobody asked me how the lore was to be written. (which is why it's silly)

I find Igiss' imagination to be extremely lacking in this area. There are better possible explanations, yet he simply chose to trample vanilla lore with his own convoluted ideas.

Alternate possibility: Gallia discovered its own DK library and developed its own G/L network independently but in parallel.
That still wouldn't explain docking rings, though; those are 100% Ageira designed and developed.

Edit: for some reason the Wiki's Valhalla One article has docking rings as one of its technological derivatives. I don't believe this accurate, however.

Edit 2: after checking, I am correct. However, Docking Ring tech was licensed out to other houses, so it's not nearly as secret - explaining how even outcasts and corsairs could steal it. Still very expensive, though.

There was a sig here, once.

Sorry, doesn't work this way. You can't mass produce something while totally not understanding how it worksl, not speaking about reverse engineering. For example, ever heard about such thing as, for example, "manufacturing method" (hope I used right term in english). That's like one of the hardest things to reverse engineer, and you need to have at least SAME capabilities as the one you're trying to "steal" from, otherwise the resulting.. "device" won't be even near it's original.

To make it easier to understand, about manufacturing method - when chinese tried to copy AL-31F jet engines. They like got everything, examined each and every bit of that thing, as a result their engine had a life span of 20-40 hours, with required... hm, don't remember currently, something about 1000. Why? For example, they couldn't replicate it's fans. They knew exact sizes, they knew what it consists of, what chemical elements it have in it. But they still couldn't replicate it, because they didn't know how exactly it's being made.
Thats one of problems with "reverse engineering".

There IS a possibility that DK left em blueprints, but that would make revolution in Liberty science and sooner someone will get it hands on part of it.

It's simple, really. The devs needed to come up with an excuse because nobody wants to spend their time cruising through a gigantic house. When you think of it that way, the lore behind it is decidedly irrelevant.

...Not that anyone is using the Gallic systems anyway. >_>

Hey that reminds me devs, can we get lanes through 47, Lambda, and Zeta too? :ylove:

Gallia just wanted revenge, and they had some parts, and the junkers said how they were used,so then 80% of Gallic scientists worked on it, and they managed to complete it. then Junks also stole docking ring parts w/ the plans for it. then the Gallic made better docking rings because the crown wanted enhancements.

LIBERTY IS THE STRONGEST OF THEM ALL!!! oh wait, that's 4.84
Now you'll see. I'll predict the future. in 4.86 Gallia will launch a full scale attack on the houses! guess how I know.

That is what happened. All of Freelancer's trade lanes, jump gates and ship engines are directly or indirectly based on DK designs. Look up Valhalla One in the DA developer documents.
