Point is to have ships fulfill roles they are supposed to fill. Nothing stops you interacting with another player regardless of the craft size he is flying. Now another point - cruisers should stay long range vigilant against battleships and gunboats, well they are to shoot down bombers. Because even with awesome HP numbers (id also remove nanobots from the battleships), bombers just demolish you, over time.

I support this idea.Mainly the idea of a battleship should be the command and overwhelming firepower base.That is why factions are posting one on the entrances.They should also be much,much more slower to gain momentum,and much harder to stop once started in cruise mode.(And yes I love Battlefleet Gothic game:))

humbly i would say that the balance of bs vs other ship types is ok....

the problem i see is bs vs bs where its over in 15 seconds

just keep thinking pirates of the caribbean would be a really short movie and certainly no broadside shots

yes!

battleships should be powerfull as hell, but kind of useless against small, agile crafts in my opinion.
they shouldnt be eble to defend solo against 3-4 bombers (but also have the shield and armor to survive against them for long enuf to call for support)

also it should be expensive to fly them.

huge repair bills, expensive to buy, expensive ammo etc.
so that a single person can hardly fly it few hours a day without having a powertrading-day or two a week.

also cruisers, they should be "a option" against smaller crafts but not that powerfull.
cruiser should be able to defend against bombers without support, but not that well.
also more expensive in every way than they are now.

i also support the idea of slowing them down. they're having jumpdrives soon anyways.
impulse speed of 40-50 should do it. cruise ~200 - cruiser a bit more, but still now able to hunt for snubs/transports - so they basicly MUST have support against small vessels.

capital guns:
-slow compared to other weaponary (300-400)
-slow-medium refire
-high damage

also capital torps/rockets should be ammo based and take up cargospace.
so the captain has to choose: lot of firepower OR fancy stuff like jumpdrives, docking modules.


i could write down pages about "what is wrong with FL capitals" - but i think thats enuf for now.

Reptile's idea is interesting but lets not forget this is a game and the capital ships are just mere shadows of what they are supposed to be. Right now every ship from gunboat to heavy dreadnaught is balanced and with the new turret splitting system and turret zoom option you have all necessary to fight properly.

As for the general idea of boosting the strenght of the battleships I have 2 solutions:
- All official factions to receive a specfic "Battleship Armor Upgrade" which will improve the armor capacity x 6 (or maybe x10!), making all official faction capital ships stronger and more real. Independent players can still fly caps with same weaponry but they wont have that much armor.

- The battleships will be special if they are rarely used. That may happen if :

It's fine now.... all what you need- good and balanced team with you, where everyone knows its role.
And less 1vs1 BS fights. Battleships are team ship.

Imo, it's stupid that I need to powertrade just to fly a BS every now and then? Bad idea.

Not everyone is a LOLPRO1337 MEGAAWESOM SO FAAAASST $$$ MONEYMAKER, lolpowertrader, etc. Also BS missions would also make it cost too

Also jumpdrives dont work how you think they do, they should just keep the same pulse speed.

Why the guy in the battleship should be uber ? Why not a guy in suber snub should be uber ?

The problem with your suggestion that it will cast aside anyone who prefers to fly snubs. People who like fighter fights will hardly be able to shape battlefields without prior concent with opposing groups. Anyone who will have a battleship will be able to ruin fights between snubs even if the fight was carried out with previuos planing.

Now if well organized or with some reinforcment snubs can still repell big capital ships. But ussaly it's already 3/4 players vs 1 player.

Uber vs other battleships. Learn to read really. Snubs are uber already. I do not see, how slow lumbering battleship that is lacking fast guns ruins snub fight. If you fly in straight line you die anyways so thats hardly an argument. And 3 VHFs atm > battleship. Much like single sabre could own a cruiser.
