I had an experiance today which put to the test my knowledge of the rules.
I, as my Outcast guy launched from Malta, and after dealing with El_Nino and Harbringer I went to tau-37. There I saw a Corsair guy killing bounty hunters. Me and some friends engaged him there and he was destroyed by an NPC.
I went to FP10 while my friends went back to Malta. When I arrived at FP10 I saw this same guy sitting there. I informed him that he needed to leave, after all, he was dead. He refused to leave saying that it was an NPC that killed him, so it wasn't a PvP death. I read the threads, I know this is wrong. I inform him of his error. He again refuses to leave.
At this point I treat him like a new Corsair character. Since he obviously will not RP "Dead" I am obligated by RP to destroy him. So I did. Then I returned to Alpha, and he followed me. So I destroyed him again.
Was I allowed to engage him after his first death?
The way i get it... it sounds like he re-engaged you when he followed you back to alpha...? i don't think you were ever wrong to re-engage him, as he was the one who died...
plus it happened in another system didn't it? - and isn't that a re-engage loophole?
I dunno, even if he was killed by an NPC he still died while he was in a fight with you guys and it's pretty bad RP to say... well, "actually i wasn't dead, we were fighting, and my ship did explode, but, i used the force and am suddenly here and intact again...."
if it was me, killed in a fight with players and NPC's and an NPC killed me, i'd just take it as a death and leave the system.

No, I was wondering about when I engaged him in Tau-37 the second time, not the time he followed me to Alpha.
Well, as it was Tau 37, I would of ignored him... Alpha? Different story. But all in all it is his fault. Doesn't matter how you die, when you die in a PvP fight you're gone, end of story.

I went to Tau-37 chasing someone else...but when I met him I destroyed him. I wanted to explore Tau-37 a bit more and met him again...
In my opinion a corsair shouldnt be out that far alone. bad can only come of that. But you re engaging him was necessary. heck I get paranoid when people follow me.

In Tau-37 he should have left. As DBoy said, it doesn't matter how you die during a PvP fight, be it by your own mines, by collision, by NPCs, you are dead. People have to stop looking for excuses and see it as a story going on. You died right next to the person you were engaging, end of story, literally.
By staying in the system where he originally died he was in transgression of rule 5.9.
Quote:5.9 A player who was killed in a PvP fight must not enter the system where the fight took place with any of the characters on his/her account(s) while the enemy (player or players involved in the fight) remains in the system, but no more than 4 hours.
If the player respawns in the same system, he/she must leave the system without engaging. Other players are not allowed to attack one who is leaving.
By following you to Alpha, if he engaged you there, he was in violation of 5.10.
Quote:5.10 A player who was killed in a PvP fight must not re-engage the enemy (player or players involved in the death) with any of the characters on his/her account(s) for 4 hours.
He was the one who died. It's his job to appear dead to you.
I don't know why, I always get Corsairs trying to do that to me in 37, these lone Gunboats who came the long way around for no apparent reason. It always annoyed me quite a bit; and if the guy's actively following you you should be able to bust a cap up his...

I jumped a guy who was following me before in RL. Turns out that I thought he was following me because he was delivering something to me neighbor who lives adjacent to me. I made a sharp turn into a nail saloon, then jumped out at him right when he was about to pass me.
Moral of the story...
Did the guy explain why he was following you? Maybe he was going to the same place you were? I dunno.
But the thing is...he should have played dead after the NPC killed him.
