That is because the LSF ROCKS!!!:)

In large battles it was explained that a capship cannot use cruise to come closer to the enemies that drifted away while in fight with others.

In small battles (caps vs others) I would say that when you are out of gun range (so 2-3K) you are out of the fight too. So you cannot engage cruise to chase a fighter unless he gets to say 3K from you. If he does he is considered fleeing and you can use your cruise to catch him. Just as Tic says.

I do not know the exact situation you were in but here are a few thoughts.

You can use cruise to pursue an opponent that is running.

If you are using thrusters to "leave" the fight. You are leaving the fight. You are not fighting in a battle that is slowly moving away from the capship.

If your dogfighting with folks and a capship goes by firing while you continue to fight in the dogfight...then you are correct. A BS is not allowed to turn and use cruise to get back.

However, if your just thrusting away from the fight then your leaving the fight and everyone is free to use cruise to chase you.

' Wrote:I witness caps cruising to catch up with the fight daily. Problem is I am afterburning away usually under fire from a couple of fighter shooting at me and the only proof you can gather about a Cap cruising after you is screen showing the distances on your contact list. It's hardly conclusive evidence to be honest and I wouldnt be happy reporting that or breaking my RP to say "You can't do that!"

That said it seems to be a PVP rule ignored by all caps I see. Theres too many grey area's in this for me. Like when I pull a battle away from the Caps. I am still engaging the fighters, wait I have pulled 2 fighters 3k away and still fighting them so now I am fleeing the Cap but actually still fighting the escort. It's too confusing. Either no cruising at all in PVP or allow it for players to catch a battle thats drifted. All this he's 3k away from me and hes fleeing now I can cruise! But I cant do this at 2k! Honestly? Are we just plucking distances out of thin air for this?

So I am favour of once you are engaged in PVP (and by that I mean you have fired your first shot) you cannot cruise at all! Once your enemy engages cruise then you can if you choose to chase, until then you cannot cruise. If your enemy is afterburning you chase him in afterburn and for Caps you lumber along in your ship until you catch the battle or not! This would force caps to have escorts to deal with ships that can afterburn away and also involve the escorts showing some tatical savy in keeping the fight closer to their support.

A complete ban on Cruising in fights! The first one to cruise is signalling he is withdrawing and you may then cruise to chase him, but if he afterburns away and the pursuer engages his cruise engines to catch up because he pilots a big ship and cant afterburn then that person should have just broken the rules. No grey area's you just cannot cruise to catch up a battle thats drifted from you.

At least thats the way I see it, I understand Cap pilots will want to keep there cruise ability so they can pwnzor people that pilot ships that can afterburn! Or in my case try and fail :P

As from what I can tell it does have a lot of grey areas but i am into for a diferent solution. If you have ability to fly faster its a dumb rule to say you cant use it. That doesnt sound much very RP to me.

I am more into removing this rule and placing it into the new mod. Simply make BS Cruire charge time to 40 sec, destroyers for 30, gunboats 20 sec and fighters 10 or less...

Actually I believe that Igiss already said that cruise recharge time is same for all ships and cannot be changed separately.

If you read what Hood said a few time any use of cruise in a fight is forbidden . Just like Spear wrote.

About "intention to run"... as long as the fighter is still in range of the capship guns it does not allow the capship to engage cruise first.. simply because they are still in the fight.

You really have no valid point in asking them not to use Gunboats. Why?
Well, because they are not a official faction, and they never intended to be.
They are a group of individuals, who decided to play together as a group.
They want to fly Gunboats? Fine, let them.
I don't like gunboat whoring, but it is much worse when one of the official factions is capship whoring, then unofficial.
They are, simply put, a group of people (maybe friends) who play together, and shoot things together.
Maybe it's not so good RP, but that is the way they decided it to be.
You can't really blame them.

I have played a mod in the past where cruise times were varied, it was Tekagis Treasure if I am not mistaken.

Regardless this cannot be implemented now so returning to the point. Don't cruise in PVP! I am still of the opinion that a Cap should not be allowed to cruise to catch somone who shows enough wit to pull it's escorts out of formation and make them vunerable. The escorts can also pull the enemy closer to their caps. It works both ways. I dont think anyone should be allowed to cruise after they've fired their first shot. Brings tatics into PVP and promotes escorts for Caps.

Yes,a simpler mod called Deep Space 9 also had that...But why would change cruise charging speed?
I mean...Yes,the BS has more powerful engine, thus, some think it should charge up faster,BUT the engine is also bigger and therefore "more stuff" to charge...Anyway,it can be done. But if Igiss say no,I'm not gonna argue with him:P

IF someone is trying tu run via thruster then you cant hit cruise to catch up with him. You could however, hit your cruise at the same time your opponent hits his own in order to escape. Simple as that.

Just stating that it's possible not campaigning for it. I would think the other way though and say it would take a BS longer to charge it's cruise engines than a light fighter for example.

Either way it's the universally ignored cruising in combat rule by Caps thats the issue for me. I work a 2k gap to deal with the escorts and seconds later the Cap is on top of me because he cruised in. What is the limit when a Cap can choose to decide "bugger it, he's too far away. I'm cruising" Is it 2k 3k, 5k?
