Has nobody actually read any of the story stuff on the website? This nothing to do with Wing Commander or Freelancer, it's an entirely new IP that appears to be a hybrid of the two in terms of game play.
Well I like it a lot, he mentioned that due customization you could fly lighter ships that turn faster/dodge better and with using aiming skill to disable vital components of the bigger and slower mainstream ships( equavlient of our SHFs- big slow can with a lot of guns that is almost free blue msg for experienced PvPer)- that the most of casual players without 3-4 years Freelancer PvP experience would use witch fits the freelancer combat very well, I also hope that joystick and pedals should not be must and that there would be also freelancer like combat look.
He mentioned something about squads and own carrier/real estate/mining stations for groups of players. I guess if the PvP is skill based and I hope it should be Disco players would utilise its experience in faction organisation and PvP to be one of the dominant powers in the new game galaxy. I imagine squad full of veterans like Sinas Hogosha/KPT group- something really scary.
The best of the best is that exploring would be real and explorers would name the systems, also the funny stuff- in his prototype game the system looked very much like Omega 11 and the asteroids were static.

(yes, i've seen enough of those lolduels, where house military with overwhelming force on the field willingly loses a pilot in a duel. ffs.)
I love the concept of chilling on your capital ship with friends. Suddenly getting attacked by pirates out of nowhere and running to the bridge each taking control of different aspects of the ship.
