By the way the Kickstarter started, I guess the best buy is 30$- you get the game for that and you help in development. 60$ package is also promising if you have more money to spend. Supporting him now is the right thing if we want this game made proper and without greedy retailers and publishers as part of the process. He follows what is written by Eric Reis in his Lean Startup book really brilliant way to start, I hope it would work out and we would get good final product. Also the hybrid way for financing the game - buying it and allowing extras to be added later for money but without giving unfair advantages like in the Freemium games.Considering that both sites are overloaded I guess the best buy options would be out soon.

As stated "Built on top of Crytek’s award winning CryEngine3 technology", expect crytek guys nearby.
About CE3, it's a pretty easy-to-access licence-wise, so crytek propably doesn't keep an eye on it, why would they?
I find special that they claim their system would be able to sustain 200 000 people playing the game.
Also indeed you can find Disco spirit in big part of their concept, especially where your discover jumpholes with your freelancer exporter ship and name the new system after that.

The visuals looked pretty stunning, and I love the attention to detail.
I knew the graphics looked familiar, they tried to disguise the "Achieved with Cry Engine 3" part. But none the less, this game looks very promising.
+Mod support from the getgo is also very nice.
Edit: Microtransactions...oh boy. The game modders will definately make that useless with all sorts of cool things. (Battlestar galactica, Star Wars, even Discovery 2.0 come to mind)
Power does not corrupt. Fear corrupts... perhaps the fear of a loss of power.
