ahem,, The LSF want to buy Ontario for their guard system in the next version
EDIT: But we could split the system in two parts....
One heavily protected for the LSF guard and where we could sell our Raven claw so no one will spam it,,, It could be surrounded by a minefield, a thick asteroid belt or an annomaly so nobody will try to get to close to our installations, Guard NPC will stay inside the defense perimeter.
The other half could be made for everyone and it could be fillled with patrols and maybe a base, But no Trade lane only beacons.
Well, i have read myself thrue the topic. In some points i agree, but some ideas are realy bad...
I realy hate empty systems, but modding them to a high level (like NY) is not good too. Just check out Newcastle, it has a tonn of bases, a huge map, but players dont go there very often.
My suggestion:
Modd them like Omega 49, or Edinburgh, or Omega 41, and a maybe one of them like galileo, or magellan.
With asteroid fields, nebulas, 1-2 lawfull base (outpost), 1 or max 2 unlawfull base, medium level npc's, good trade routes, and a lot of things to discover;)
I think these systems are the best.
And to the guard systems.
Yes, we (UOG) have one too, but except of us, noone goes there. I suport the buyable guard system idea, but it should have less "brutal" npc's, a few jump holes, trade routes passing thrue these systems, so the guard factions could protect it. Like if omega 49 would be a zoner or some lawfull trader guard system (DSE or whatever) (((only an idea)))
The names aren't really important. It feels like we're experiencing a bit of jingoism in this thread. What is important is that there is some development going on. As Unselie suggested, a stepped approach to colonising the systems would be great. But there have to be some planets or resources within the systems for this to realistically happen.
Deveopments like Newcastle are a great idea, but Newcastle is just tooooooooooooo BIG! :shok: I have found reasons to be there, it's just the time it takes to get from A to B can be monumental!
Keep the scale down, inject NPCs into the mix, a couple of viable trade routes, some wrecks (:secret:) and a few lawful and unlawful outposts, and suddenly there'll be more reasons for people to be there.
At the moment there are a lot of sad, empty spaces :( that need to start getting filled.
The reason why we want Ontario is because it is close to liberty (JH to California. There is no other empty system around Liberty. Unless Admins aprove to make one connecting with NY or Cali.
We really want that system, But as I said it could be splitted in two parts ( which should be close to reality since you can go close to military facilities but you can't go in it ) and Guard NPC will stay inside the base perimetter. Outside of it everything would be like a vanilla system with trade, base, normal NPCs encounter.
PS: Btw I didn't even know that so much pirates were passing there lol
Then you should apply for New Hampshire (maybe I got the wrong name here) - the system that has JH in Texas on the east side of the trade lane between Houston and New York JG.
It's empty and it's connected to Liberty... and on the other side of the system chain is Braunchsweig....(after 2 more desolate systems).
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.
My argument against buying guard systems:
They do not add to the roleplay, they become like zone 21, areas where only a select few people can pass through, and for no reason. Guard systems get turned into fortress systems that no one wants to go through, because of the insanely difficult defenses, and the faction members. I know the LSF may dearly want their guard system, but, ask yourselves, once you get it, what will it add? Another Vespucci, or Virginia? Does any guard system add to the overall flavor of the game, or do they just add nonsensical ubershipyards? The corsair systems are getting a pair of stations with biodomes....and, with said biodomes, the corsairs will be much better suited to support themselves, but, will that affect the piracy ingame? No.
Guard systems, as currently laid out, don't make economic or political sense, and deter from the overall RP.
The QCRF owns Salisbury. If we ever produce the funds to get it modded, I will ask (though I doubt I'll get it) that the BAF guards be reduced to BAF, and a Bowex borderstation and a BMM mining platform be added, because I believe such an addition would make sense.
(not that I don't think it makes sense for the Corsairs to want Biodomes, but, you aren't going to see these biodomes reflected in the game as a whole) To be perfectly blunt, Disco is a static world, and the additions you are all keen to make do not make sense, and perpetuate the unchanging nature.
I like the fact that Ontario is there, but there is no need for trade lanes through that system. That system is the only good thing a pirate has to get into New York safely from Cali because of the proximity of the 2 jump holes in CO. If anyone should own that system it should be a pirate faction Lane Hackers, Rogues, or Outcast. Don't give it to the greedy trading corporations. It's called balance of power.
Actually, I requested to purchase Ontario for the Liberty Rogues (although i would be happy with Yukon or Alberta), but I can see that Unselie's idea makes far better sense and would massively increase the RP etc.
LSF, go get Minnesota, Quebec, New Hampshire etc or remod illinois (I know it's an LPI system but so? i'm sure there wouldn't be any objection to liberty forces modding it). Leave the Ontario system open for smugglers/pirates/neutrals etc.
So anyway, to recap. I personally think we should go with Unselie's plan. I think that would make things far more interesting, and it certainly wouldn't possibly detract from Disco whatsoever, merely enhance it. Ontario is a highly useful side route for getting to NY from the north or just plain getting to Colorado, so it would always be used by a considerable amount of people.
It would be nice to see Ontario/Alberta/Yukon being slowly developed over a few mod updates and RP could be done along the way between the various factions interested in grabbing real estate in the area (the Rogues would certainly be moving into the area, especially Yukon as it is directly adjacent to their guard system. The Hackers and Xenos wouldn't be far behind either).
