Yeah, there's no excuse for metagaming of that nature. Hell, I was running after a trader with a load of luxury food the other day, begging for him to drop a few units for my poor starving family (I fly a slipstream). I got ignored, at least until the BH destroyer and Liberty battlecruiser got involved..........................

Quote:Taxing IMHO is a waste of time. All it is so they can make money fast with out having to do anything but sit around being lazy. In all reality, here is what a tax is for if you do it. This happened to me a while back, some guy asks for tax, a mil, I've got an Adv. Train at like level 85 or something so what the hell is a million right? I give him the cash and then a pirate comes out of no where and starts attacking me, claiming he wants my cargo. The guy I just taxed says "not my problem" and flies away.

A tax is given for protection, not some lazy piece of s*** who doesn't want to do crap to get money except be lazy.

Has everyone forgotten how to do the quote function?

You do realize... of course that pirating is the hardest way to make money. About six months ago, I took some data, before I left. About 5% of all "requests":Pfor 4 million got denied, and I was forced to kill the trader. The average tax takes 20 seconds, and the fight usually 1 min, depending.

Pirating/Taxing is all about roleplay. Trading, especially if the old Tau-37 route was there, is mounds easier. Generally safe, you probably make 10 times the amount you would from pirating.

I'm sick of people getting pissed at pirates, when the majority, or at least a few months ago, were RPers just trying to have tad of fun outside of the faction pissy fights. Honestly people, stop ****ting on pirates, and welcome the challenge. Should be an exciting change to the perpetual boredness that is trading.

Flyer out.

I am a long-absent Supreme Commander, Executive Commander, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, and Captain in the mighty Hellfire Legion. I have returned, and am on an urgent mission from Drake Thastus to return the Legion to its former glory, and to claim the galaxy for its own. Only then will I be able to rest.

RP Story (Still deciding whether or not to finish)

I'm not dissing on pirates Flyer, did you see me anywhere in there dissing on all pirates? I'm simply ranting on the fact that certain pirates tax and then don't protect the said player or give them any benifits for crossing through the system. Lets look up the definition of "tax" shall we?

"Websters Dictionary Wrote:1. a sum of money demanded by a government or party for its support or for specific facilities or services, levied upon incomes, property, sales, etc.

Please point out the part that states that said person can tax and not give anything back? Granted, a pirate can say "oh well I taxed them to keep them alive." Then don't call it a tax, say it like this.

"Two million credits or you die." not "Tax, two million." and then leave then they're getting attacked and say it's not there problem. While "taxing" is an interesting thing to come across, it's not when the "taxer" is being a retarded person who doesn't want to WORK for their money and instead just stealing cash off someone with out doing anything in return.

You fear oblivion. Yet you forget. The universe remembers every atom of your being. Even dust hums your name in the dark.
Roleplay is dead. Long live Powertraders and PvP I guess.

I actualy like the ocassional pirate encounter while trading.
It gives me some moments of action on those borring late trade runs...
A lot of runs i would wish i would encounter a pirate just for the sake of gettign some RP out of it.
The problem is that a lot of pirates today don't even RP...
The routine of:
"<name> Halt"
"Tax"
"2 mil"
"pay or die"
most of which don't even try to Cd you or anything, just shout it in system when they are 5k and more away and expect you to roll over and give them what they want.
it is getting a bit old.. i wouldn't mind paying the 2 mil if i at least get a good RP out of it...
this way it is just annoying..

I got some nice RP out of the LH some time ago. I stopped and after a few minutes of bargaining I gave them the cash, wished them luck and ran off to NY.
On one run to Dublin I had a guy who just started shooting me from a gunboat out of the blue, and then chasing me. While I turned on my cruise engines I asked him what does he want, he replied "2 mil" and nothing more. I didn't stop to that, pure and simple. If they want the cash they have to work for it, and that means at the very least a good bargaining.

I agree with this, only level that should matter is 30, because that determines wether or not you can attack.

And I think that even if there are more than 1 person robbing you, don't go overboard! Some Corsairs once asked my for 4 millio and 500 of my cargo, because there were 2 of them!
Rididulous!

Ok, I have both a pirate and a trader and I try and RP (and I think I do pretty decent at it, esp the trader one) with both. Now, the issue with RPing while pirating is that while I'm typing up a chat message...the traders cruise engeines are warming up. Or they shoot me.

But if you stop as a trader, I let you name your donation (within reason). If you make me chase you I let you argue with Mr. Supernova. And then I demand at least 2million. Now, that being said, I don't tax you for the right to go through my the system I'm in (unless you're in Alpha) I make you donate, or, I make you pay for my time. After you've stopped and are not shooting at me I try and RP a little bit more.

As a trader I do not mind getting pirated. Unless you scratch my paint job and then I'm not happy with you. BUT I will use every available means to get away. This includes, Running, docking, trying to stay docked with the TL while I negotiate so it whisks me away, taking alternate routes, insuting the pirate, putting out a general SoS. If I know there is a pirate in the system I take a way around his logical hunting spot. But if I get caught I pay.

One thing that people forget is that its not a 700k cargo, its what you sell it at that you lose. And the time, and the ability to go through that system.

Ask any Blood Dragon on his opinion of the Corsairs :)

Do you traders have ANY idea how difficult it is to pirate people? Most of my time is spent jacking someone succesfully, then running the heck away from the PC/NPC contingent that shows up, due to the fact that my craft has a turning circle of about 10984702974211K, this usually ends up with me in an escape canister. If you're a trader flying through house systems, you can usually find backup from NPC's. As a pirate, not only do you have to worry about the next Navy battleship to show up, there are other pirate factions who hate you as well.

Honestly, I remember my classic example of a trader hauling 5000 Diamonds out of New Berlin, earning _quite_ a bit of cash, being stopped by me, then running for JH with //"Soz!!! Doing runzors now!!". And you people wonder why we dont trust trading PC's further than we could throw their 7000 tonne hunk of junk. Your trading ways might be the reason pirates lose patience very, very quickly and skip to shooting the cargo compartments off your trains. We may not get the tax, but 108 diamonds sell for 71,000 at my home bases, more than enough to cover the $4000 I spend firing Cruise Disruptors at you lot.

Traders: Think about how pirates survive in the game.
Pirates: Think of how much money the trader will make when they ignore you.. and make an example of them.

Edit: I tax higher if you head through Chugoku or Hokkaido. Get spotted in Tau-63, and you're a dead trader monkey.
