Nothing's stopping you from roleplaying a pauper.

A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.

What i don't like about Discovery:
1. This universe you have created is filled with rich people, everyone has a capital ship, destroyers, cruisers, big effin' battleships. Besides the fact that they are so easy to buy (that's outrageous) they only have to buy the capital and that's it, no more money to pay for it. My friends, a capital ship in my opinion needs maintenance, upkeep, crew payments, it should not be that easy to own one.
2. Indie players. What in the world? If you have the Id of an Outcast, you should be in the outcast player faction period. If you don't want to in the faction, then be a freelancer, that's the name of the game you know.
3. If i buy the GRN id, i should get the GRN iff, because you know i should be in the faction (see 2.)
4. When you die, you instantly revive, that not cool.

I also thought of some solutions for these problems:
1. When you buy a capital ship you will have to pay an amount of money per week for upkeep. That way, not everyone can afford a battleship.
2. When you buy an Id you will have to pay that faction a memership fee, because you know, they let you use their ships and weapons. Same thing: once a week an amount will be substracted from your account. The money can be used by the faction leaders to upkeep the faction battleships, reward members, post bounties, and whatever comes to their mind.
3. Autorep, just like droprep works.
4. At least half an hour when you can't login into your character, this way you can avoid the breaking of the 4 hour rule (it's too much time and if people can break it, they will) and give a little sense to dieing.

oh my , I'm gonna make some enemies with this but to be honest : +1

I agrre with the OP, however this is not the place to post this thread.

Ive made numerous topics on the subject, from shiploss on death, to removing inides. But they all need a lot of balancing.

If your gonna replace indy faction IDs with FL ID, FL ID needs more freedom to compensate, which in turn means more balancing for that and ect.

Hmmm, that says two thousand and TWELVE doesnt it? Linked to an old thread eh?

Sumbag - that's the topic starter - you missed one important point:
This is not just a modification it is a community which both evolved over YEARS.

There is the commercial game Freelancer you can play and there is our modification - quite a difference.
Also there are technical additions like FL-Hook which originates from a different server, in particular HHC (Hamburg City Server).

This means you should realise how the original game works and then realise the very difference to this mod.
Microsoft, the publisher of this game, shut down the official public servers a long time ago.
Without the hard work of HHC and the Starport community this very mod would not even exist.
Not to mention all the players who worked on this very mod over the last years.
While there is some kind of team who pushed the discovery modification forward the community teamwork is unique.
This includes players and modification contributors.

My tiny contribution was to recreate the system Hiroshima on behalf and with teamwork of my old KNF faction.
My work is nothing special but it's unique like all the other contributions by my fellow mates:

Jinx for example created most of the 'new' ships here - which are evolving over the years.
All the rules, specific faction IDs are unique.
Not to mention all the Flhook addtions developed by Cannon.
And finally all the story progess under the leadership by Igiss.

All of that looks like it'd just be taking another step toward turning FL into EVE.

I have EVE for EVE. I play FL for Freelancer.

-1.

I've updated my post above a lot.

Please do not compare FL with EVE - that are very different TYPES of games.

I can understand new players as they do not know about the history of our MODIFICATION.
And somehow it makes me proud that we still get new players with this freaking old game.

And why shouldn't I compare the two? This modification has - repeatedly - taken measures to emulate certain aspects of EVE. All that's been done is someone going and suggesting making an arcadey space shooter require more micro-management.

So I stand by my previous post.

Hmm I understand your point but you cannot compare EVE and Freelancer.
EVE was designed to be a multiplayer game.
Freelancer was based on Privateer but with an experimental MP feature - almost everything was messed during the development and the game itself was a financial disaster even with the commercial move to make a connection to Starlancer, which was quite successful for it's time.

And our - free - mod (including server and forums) evolved over the years with a strong community while the original game is dead.
EVE is just commercial.

Compare the commercial Elder Scrolls series with the dedicated Gothic series and you will have the same result. Wink

*Facepalms* You've totally missed the point.

1. capital ships are now used as jumpdrives - and they take a lot of maintenance.
2. factionlancer, do not want.
3 you cannot buy id's without bein fully green to the faction in question. players ho /restart are not fully repped, as they have to do 'some' work
4. there is afour hour rule, but its for that system: this suggestion will discourage new players.
