:l shouldn't be available for snubs. They're hard enough to hit even with a targeting reticle.

Just to make it clear. When using that "stealth device", you can only fly at impulse/thrust speed. That logically excludes the usage of lanes, since you move faster than 200 m/s there.

And considering that you can't scan cloaked people aswell, this should work. You'll just see their ship without name, rank, IFF etc. but you can still shoot it. (Though the red aiming point should stay. Otherwise snubs would become invincible.)

The red targeting reticle won't be generated unless the target is either hostile or targeted.

A bit of an off topic, but would it be possible to have a similar effect for ships to "power down" in order to not be targetable or visible on scanners at the cost of having no movement capabilities other than drifting?

I like the idea.
You will be harder to target in snub fights for example and can dodge nicely away. i still think however there should be a cool down timer on it.

I don't think it'd be quite overpowered for snubs, since they can't just cruise away. True, they might be harder to hit, but with a cool down timer, they wouldn't be invincible at all. Plus they'll lack a CM (or CD or even armor slot?)

If necessary, you could make it impulse speed only. It's pretty hard not to get murdered by other snubs if they can sit right on top of you because you can't thrust.

I like idea about weapon energy drain and only pulse. At least, that will stop using cloak+cap as tool for blues.

The whole idea seems really interesting to me... and it would give so many possibilities to everyone, lawful/unlawful, military/corporate/freelance...

Think of the following examples:
A military like... let's say CR, launching a "guerrilla strike" on the GRN somewhere. They would use this cloak until they get close enough and then they'd begin the attack.
Or something like the nomads, trying to get near others (from behind perhaps?), same goes for Order, Wilde, LSF (maybe?)... all other "special ops." factions....
Traders/smugglers (especially smugglers) would use it to get past the scanners of enemies...

And last but not least, even in a face-to-face combat, a small craft could use it in the attempt to run away, when it's clear it won't be able to cruise, but would at least be "un-clickable" so harder to hit by those who chase it.

Basically this kind of cloak is both balanced and improves the gameplay/gamestyle possibilities.
