For me, Starship Troopers 1 & 3 served as the most suitable replacement for Star Wars for the past few years, simply because no other film has managed to capture the same large scale space war feeling the two films conveyed. Plus the premise of human beings living in the future seemed much more relevant than a long time ago in a galaxy far away. And the soundtracks were really freakin' awesome, especially "Klendathu Drop" which had been used and abused in every starship troopers video game and animation ever made.

I can't be the only Starship Troopers fanatic here? Anyone?

No atmosphere? GTFO.

In one word - NO!

And perhaps you may not want to hear this, but the book Starship Troopers is like 99999999999999 times better than any of the movies. If you've never read it, I suggest you do so. Heinlan's best, imo.

A've read the book, can't say its ba, just different. Why can't people think of Starship Troopers - Heinlein as a completely separate entity from Starship Troopers - Paul Verhoven?
Why all this hate to the movie? It's just a film using the same name of the book, i bet if the book hadn't existed people would stop hating on the films.

@Highland Laddie : he was talking about movies , not SciFi books . You surely need to read Stanislaw Lem , Frank Herbert , Arthur C. Clark , H.G. Wells , Asimov (in any order , plus some others) .

About the movies , yes i could also state that Starship Trooper (1) is one of my preferates , but still that depends on what are we talking about here . Is not an deep movie , is a pop-corn movie instead . I have some other preferate SF movies too , i'll just put them all on the same scale , none is the best and none is the worst .

I choose to enjoy the Starship Troopers movies in the spirit that they were made: as light entertainment.

There was a sig here, once.

and also, i'm not really talking about scifi in general. I'm talking specifically about large scale space wars- you know the ones with lots of starships and aliens and robots and planets and stuff, not the artsy stuff where the artist is trying to convey something meaningful through the use of "sci-fi".

Only saw the movies so can only based on that

Starship trooper 1: Awesome !
Starship trooper 2: Cool
Starship trooper 3: Meh.. Too cheesy
Starship trooper Invastion: Lolwut ? Unless you like to watch Carman's Animated Bewbs in shower

Although I like the original Starship trooper, I still way prefer the Star Wars series compared to anything else Sci-Fi movies

Excuse me , but how do you call those movies ? History ?
You better go back and google about them , you will find that movies as being "Science fiction" genre .

And also , you will find that "Science fiction" = "SF"= "Sci-Fi"(or just Scifi on some pages) .
