Yo.

I have:

Intel® Celeron® 2.4 GHz
RAM 1 GB
1 CPU Core
nVidia Geforce4 MX 440 with AGP8x ( 64 MB Graphics )
Microsoft Windows XP Special Pack 3
32-bit Operative System

Problem:

My PC restarts on its own.Specifically, I had broken capacitor within the Motherboard, so my father brought it to the computer technician to fix it.Unfortunately, the computer technician replaced my broken 1000 μF 16 V capacitor with a 2200 μF 13 V Capacitor.

So now, the computer is in even worse condition than it was. Also, while the PC was at the computer technician, I upgraded it with 512 MB of RAM.So, it has 1 GB of RAM now.

I even went to the BIOS and it says that its 50°C within the PC/Motherboard.I have 2 Coolers. Both of them are working ( I checked it ) while in BIOS says that CPU Cooler is working but the System Cooler is not.

I am afraid that this could be a PSU problem. The computer simply freezes after the windows logo and then it restarts. Then again...and again.I am able to go to Safe Mode but I can't play anything because we all know what Safe Mode is for, troubleshooting.

I am currently using my old Pentium III 863 MHz and 384 MB of RAM + an integrated 32 MB Graphics. Not enough to run FL.

Does this require total replacement of the PSU ?

I've tried over 3000 combinations I know how to fix a damn freezing PC but it doesn't work.

What in the world should I do ?

No, you could get the PSU fixed, but it will very likely cost more to repair than it would to just go and purchase a new one.

This is what I suggest you do.

Before you do that, make sure the power cable is plugged in properly, then if that doesn't work and this will sound stupid, change the power cable.

If this doesn't fix the problem, the only thing I can think that it might be is the motherboard.

I would back-up *all* of your important stuff on the computer and take the computer back to the technician and let them solve the problem, after all it only started rebooting AFTER you got it back from them.

yep agree there, no point in trying to fix the mb, if a cap has blown, then there is a weakness somewhere and prob will happen again, a new mb is needed

like mick said back up everything and get a new mb

as for the so called tech that replaced a cap with a different value, he needs sacking, the value is there for a reason

Holy smokes, I never heard of anyone trying to fix a broken capacitor (or anything else) on a mobo.. what with multilayer boards and all. And then the repair guy puts the wrong one in.. seriously, I'm amazed your PC starts up at all. But Eonaros, that's a really old system, maybe time to consider a complete upgrade?

You heard now . Replacing a broken cap with a new one is common . And it will not go down for many ears (the capacitator) . Imagine that many of us leave in countries with the minimum wage of 150 Euro (taxable) . A new rig for playing Freelancer would be at least 200 Euro , so figure how easy it is to buy a new PC .

Most likely a power cable problem, ofcourse the second most common reason is the CPU, make sure the vents are inplaced. If the computer works till the loading process, it's due to tempeture so I'd check the CPU.

Were fools to make war on our brothers in arms.

Your best bet it to buy new system or to start saving for new system.
The listed components have done their life cycle.
Components are made to work certain time whatever you fix the next thing would break so it is pointless.

check the other capacitors each cap top should be flat and silver (mostly), if any are raised or you can see a bit of yellow coming out then most likey they will pop soon

get them replaced with the SAME ones with a DIFFERENT tech

what you dont want happening is if they Do pop a power surge goes through your system destroying other components like gfx gcard/hdd etc
