Well, people have been complaining for more interesting weapons lately. I came up with one at lunch. What about an actual cannon-cannon for fighters, not like the 'autocannons' (it's a Gatling gun, people. Get is straight), but an actual gun? It gets seventy rounds, and doesn't operate when the missile key is pressed (I've seen that done in a Gundam add-on mod, I'm pretty sure it can be done here). The rounds are unguided, move about 1000-1200 m/s (they only get seventy shots, so some of them do need to hit...). Refire is 4.00, damage is probably in the order of 2500-3000 (that's adjustable, depending on the necessary balance; this is, obviously, just a concept). This provides a more interesting type of weapon to allow for some more variety in fighting styles without destroying the preexisting balance. There would probably be two types of guns with identical stats, so that a player can mount two and still get seventy shots instead of thirty-five. These are actual mass drivers, mind you, whether explosive or railgun, so they could come in various calibers, exchanging damage for speed and accuracy. Think it has any merit?

Each House should get some: Heavy and slow for RH, Mediumish for Brets, Fast and light for Kusari, maybe explosive for OC and sheildbusting for Corsairs? (no idea how to variate it for Liberty....)
I would say considering recent advancements in rail gun technology that this concept is highly probable for a deployed weapons system in Sirius. In fact, they should technically be far past rail gun technology. Not to say an explosive projectile weapon isn't good, I just love the concept of a forward rail gun mounted on a Liberty Cruiser:P

That's my point with the speed; a limited number of shots, so they move much faster than our current guns to make them more effective. GO make your own server and up the gun speed to 1000 m/s; see how much easier it is to kill somebody with less than a 30% increase in speed on the Kraken IIs. I don't know if explosive damage could be done with these either, let's not get ahead of ourselves...

In my personal option, it would need to be absolute crap with shields. I mean absolutely wretched, but on a hull? High velocity impact with the right type of ordnance should make a find apron of it. However with an explosive projectile Xing is right, if it isn't auto tracking it will need some sort of leg up. A wide blast radius seems like a good idea.
That's a problem, then, because shield damage can't be less than half of hull damage. I think 1500 is pretty safe, though; I mean, shields come back, so it's inefficient, especially since with these babies a pair of Tizzies or Debilitators or an Inferno isn't going to be much of a problem to work with. Maybe we should cut the refire to 3.03 or 2.00 to compensate?

Maybe, I was just thinking of a purely realistic point of view. I still think making them primarily hull based weapons is a good idea, but everything deserves to be given a test.
Lowering the refire rate seems like a good idea to me, but as with anything if could prove to be a problem.
Its just that the idea of a fast firing weapon like this is enticing, is there a way we can have a go of the possible options on a test server sometime?
