I've personally witnessed a base attack in Zeta right now, in which the Order, the Nomads and the Liberty Navy truced with each others to take the attacker of the base out. I thought bases were meant to improve roleplay on the Server, not make it all about Skypefriends even more than it was before? I hear those kind of stories all the time, too, so I'm trying to figure, are bases really this beneficial to the server?

I want to get off Mr. Igiss' wild ride.

Personally I believe they're a feature that encourage the use of transports for other causes than making money, which in turn encourages better and more opportunities for piracy. As pointless as they may be apart from an extra docking point, it would be of no benefit to take them out of the game.

It might be very Skype (and therefore OoRP heavy) but try co-ordinating a big attack without getting people to log in the first place and get to the system/base in question. Kind of unavoidable.

In this case however, I do see your point. Yes, that's a ridiculous alliance, the nomads shouldn't even be getting involved unless they're just going to shoot at everyone. Did they shoot at each other after? I don't think the question is "are they beneficial" but more "Are they just appealing to trigger-happy players" that for whatever reason, think breaking RP is an excuse to fire at something.

Just a personal opinion though, I wasn't there. Just RP wise that is really, really silly.

I don't think the above issue is about bases, I think the above issue is about indies vs factions, but I don't think it's really worth getting into here.

I can tell you for a fact no -official- Liberty Navy player would do something so idiotic.

I doubt that official Order players would do this too.

My point is that while many indies do Roleplay, and do act in a sensible and in character manner, many many many of them do not, and ALL official factions are required to meet some standard of Roleplay and rule following.

This is why Official factions are given some of the responsibilities that they are and this is why official factions are given "control" over the NPC factions that they represent.

(That's not to say that there aren't some official factions that don't deserve their official status, or that there aren't some people in official factions who shouldn't be, idiocy, rulebreaking and OOC behavior does happen on both sides of the indie v officials argument.)

But right...this thread was supposed to be about bases, but that was my two cents, as it seems to me that that's the real issue here.

I think it explains enough.. Its not about roleplay anymore.. but just who do you know. NOthing more nothing less.

I remember Order and corsairs shooting ZA bases not that long ago. I was not there personally, but i did hear that they where. Now i was a witness of this too but it only saddens me. what people do for a base. Like ZA where sanctioned for re-engaging i bet many would do that for preserving their base. So basicly they put up the middle finger to the rules to defend their own 'property'. In a way i see why but it does not justify the reason to just tag along and ignore the plain server rules.

I was PMed by a few people asking if I "Had a zoner, order, corsair, nomad or LNS somewhere in Delta to protect a base". So I went there to shoot it instead. Was fun. How many times we killed Ote...something? Np.

So what do you know people asking each others in space any free time to help protecting a base in Deep omicrones regardless of what ship you could use was it in RP or out of RP for that specific interaction ?
Especialy the LNS wich are way out of theyr zone of influence all the way in Zeta... Not to mention the Nomads oh my they are the best part of all this ignoring overwelming force of Order and LNS AI Zoners or i would say rather working *with them* to protect someone/theyr property...

Looks like server rules or role play dosent mather much when base protection is all about they aren't anymore role play toys they are bringing money or fancy equipment and it have to be kept alive at all cost even if it means multiple reengaging and OOC actions...

Yup bein there... saw everything... witnesing from the first hand...

All the bigger events will become an oorp zone where everyone can be allied with anyone and everybody can reengage. Unless there is an admin persence and watching it by himself. It's as simple as that. And it's a shame.

Insert long statement about this server's RP requirement only being used as a mask by most people to cover up the what seems to be sexual thrill people get from hoarding as much money, reputation or anything else which would identify them as "better" players above others.

I honestly can't even remember one instance of me shooting a base when the defenders -didn't- form idiot OORP truces or alliance in order to save their static ego. One such cases would be BHG, IMG, Rogues, CR, Zoners and independent pirates defending a TAZ base in Baffin/Tau 29, some of which were official faction members.

Presuming the base in Zeta is Phoenix Spaceport, it doesn't even nearly surprise me something like this happened. My kudos to the people who tried killing it regardless. You are true gentlemen and scholars.

There was LN ID'ed cap? I remember getting support from 3 Liberty caps however I was pretty sure all of them had Order ID's.

I only showed up late to the battle, but all three Corsairs were still alive when I did (they had already killed the RMBS...) - all I saw were Zoners defending a Zoner base, Order defending the same (also killing Nomads and idiot Corsairs) and AIs killing Nomads and Corsairs. All the Nomads I saw were attacking the above side, or just spinning around keeping the shield up.
As Golly is getting at, Order ID has 75% on LN tech. I saw the 141| LAC and later a Dreadnought at the base.

If I remember this situation correctly (FPXXI being removed by Kusari and Gallia together), there were CR| ships alongside a Freelancer and a couple of Pirate IDs attacking (not very well, admittedly) the horde of hostile caps. I think Bret came on his TAZ to demand an explanation from the KNF, do not think he was annoyed enough (in or out of RP) to attack them though.
Since before CR| was formed, the Colonials have been at war with Kusari and Gallia and allied with the TAZ - two very valid reasons to turn up and shoot things.

In general though, bases tend to bring out the worst in people and there have been plenty of 'alliances' perceived to be ooRP.
