So what's up with bases and Roleplay?

I only showed up late to the battle, but all three Corsairs were still alive when I did (they had already killed the RMBS...) - all I saw were Zoners defending a Zoner base, Order defending the same (also killing Nomads and idiot Corsairs) and AIs killing Nomads and Corsairs. All the Nomads I saw were attacking the above side, or just spinning around keeping the shield up.
As Golly is getting at, Order ID has 75% on LN tech. I saw the 141| LAC and later a Dreadnought at the base.

One such cases would be BHG, IMG, Rogues, CR, Zoners and independent pirates defending a TAZ base in Baffin/Tau 29, some of which were official faction members.

If I remember this situation correctly (FPXXI being removed by Kusari and Gallia together), there were CR| ships alongside a Freelancer and a couple of Pirate IDs attacking (not very well, admittedly) the horde of hostile caps. I think Bret came on his TAZ to demand an explanation from the KNF, do not think he was annoyed enough (in or out of RP) to attack them though.
Since before CR| was formed, the Colonials have been at war with Kusari and Gallia and allied with the TAZ - two very valid reasons to turn up and shoot things.

In general though, bases tend to bring out the worst in people and there have been plenty of 'alliances' perceived to be ooRP.

It's very true that, there's no RP with player-bases. A number of Outcast and a Zoner killed our FreeLancer base, after one called his pals in Skype to come help destroy it. I did complain about using a Zoner ID and ship to kill base, talk about that being ooRP.

I still dont understand why RMBS attacked Zoner base in Omicron Zeta. With Corsairs and Nomads.

Because it's the only way they can get "enough people" together to kill a base that's well protected shooting it over a long period of time. So RP goes flying out the window just to kill the base. Unless you have loads of mates on Disco who will help you defend a base, don't waste your time building one. Because some on this server get their kicks from killing them with help from their mates.

I think it explains enough.. Its not about roleplay anymore.. but just who do you know. NOthing more nothing less.

I remember Order and corsairs shooting ZA bases not that long ago. I was not there personally, but i did hear that they where. Now i was a witness of this too but it only saddens me. what people do for a base. Like ZA where sanctioned for re-engaging i bet many would do that for preserving their base. So basicly they put up the middle finger to the rules to defend their own 'property'. In a way i see why but it does not justify the reason to just tag along and ignore the plain server rules.

I don't blame some breaking the re-engagement rule to protect their base. Why shouldn't they when generally no RP takes place with them while under attack, and when you kill a player shooting your base, they only go and "re-log onto another char" 5 minutes later to carry on shooting it. So don't blame ZA re-engaging to be honest, they do it on other char.

I think Bases should be done in a similar way to SRP, where they have to have a benefit to roleplay to exist.

Mind you, bases also have tactical advantages too. Not all bases are built for RP (defensive bases)
but can also accidently provide it at the same time. (eg ZA, or the mollies one in dublin asking for permits, whatever.)
Personsally bases should be easier to kill and easier to maintain - is it really worth the struggle just for some "RP" ?

Point is Bases are bad full stop, whatever they are used for they are bad, Why: ?

Well they take up considerable amount of player time therefore they are ANTI to what discovery is all about!

Tell you what here is a question to the Devs: Aeternus, Aerelm etc

• Do you intend to make bases more easier to build / manage so that maintenance of them is not time consuming thus anti to Discovery as the current system is?
  
  
• Or isit the intention that bases will continue as they are?
  

The answers to these questions will determine the future of Discovery....

Either that or you get access to it and destroy the base internally. So you got like two choices: Gather a bunch of caps regardless of how ooRP the combination is and earn the title of D for the massive amount of ooRP just to take out a base, OR execute a move the whole community regards as a d move and earn the title of D that way.

tl;dr: Want to take out a base? You succeed? You are a d anyways. That's what I learnt here in the past weeks here.

Bases do take a lot of time to build, but that brings rp as well, more than what you can do with a lone fighter. This is true to everyone but more to zoners, since whales are defenseless your only hope is to talk your way out of trouble.
I found plenty of time to build my base and still keep up with my characters, building the base is tough but once you finish it everything becomes easy. Bases themselves provide an additional layer of RP, and using these creations as an excuse to stamp I find to be really stupid. Before going on to claim that Disco is not about bases, Disco is here because of Bases, because of what the devs made and how disco has evolved, this is progress, not rolling back, Cheers.

Disco is not here because of bases infact bases are a very new concept, Disco is here because of the RP Background it has built up over years of mod development and player interaction. Giving it the best reputation, bases maybe progress in terms of Mod Development but its Rolling Back the Player Population.

It is not bases' fault, but peoples', who lost grip on the roleplay.
It is all about players.

That logic is quite wrong. For example what would happen if all the rules were removed? "It is not admins' fault, but peoples', who lost grip on the roleplay." And Discovery deathmatch 24/7 would be the result.

Thing is, people ARE inherenty evil. If something can be abused, it will be abused. If something can be done without RP in 95% cases it will be done without RP. If max piracy is 2mil 95% pirates will demand 2 mil.

Rules exist exactly for the reason of stoping such things, and when rules are not enough admins handle things. And what about bases? Rules say nothing, and admins did nothing in all those base incedents. All this Whine/Rage/skyping is only logical result.

And how things can be fixed? Removing bases is lazy solution that while fixing problem, is definetly not best. Making some rules for bases MIGHT help, but then we will have either practically unkillable bases or rules will not stop this madness.
In my opinion best thing to do is restrict bases to SRP, while making them invulnerable outside regulated PvP events. What interests me is what position will admins take, or not take.

The tragic thing is that even the argument that the items bases produce add to RP is invalid. Because cloaks let you avoid RP altogether.
