I had been spending all of my time in game for the last week trading, and had seen nary a one PLAYER pirate. It was getting really boring and mundane, and I was a little disappointed. When I first started playing a few weeks ago (that's like, what? 5 minutes compared to some of you?), I saw them with a lot more frequency.
So I finally get stopped by some pirates, while flying my Enterprise Liner, The.Glorious.Burden (just renamed to The.Grand.Illusion, get it? come sail away? cruise liner? sail? Styx?). After some fantastic roll play, I decided to make an escape attempt, and survived, intact.
I don't know what the rest of the community thinks about pirates, but personally, I like em (not in RP, of course). You guys are bringing an element of fun to trading, and I hope to see more.
Furthermore, once I have payed off my loan with "The Bank of Your Needs", and finished outfitting my liner with some better armor, I will be creating a role play event to encourage more pirates to take to the skies.
My intent is, using role play, to turn my enterprise The.Grand.Illusion into a resort cruise/casino. Since it is a casino, there will be a lot of 10k Sirius credit cards on board. Using the forums, I will post an "advertisement" for my resort cruise and casino, which will include a schedule, ostensibly to enable potential passengers to know where to be when they want to get on board. OORP, the purpose of this ad is to tell the pirates when and where to be. If you can find my vessel, and capture or, if necessary, kill it, you will find yourself with almost 40 million sc worth of credit cards.
So, pirates, as long as you are following the RP rules (unlike the first one I encountered, who shot off 5 of my transports turrets after I had already agreed to pay him), are being reasonable (asking for a fair amount, like 3 or 5 mill, instead of 100), I, for one, encourage your practice.
The captain of The.Grand.Illusion, however, does not share my enthusiasm...
Great to hear you're enjoying yourself so thoroughly! If you can keep that attitude up I'm quite certain the server'll be a better place for it. That aside, I'm not sure what banner your Liner's flying under, but if you're in need of an escort and on decent terms with OS&C, feel free to ask. I'm sure I could drum up a few other people to come along too.

May as well make a party out of it.
FANTASTIC!!! I was just thinking how much more fun it would be if there were some friendly player escorts around to add to the challenge.
As it happens, The Grand Illusion not only carries an OS&C ID, but is also tagged as such, as OS@C is the flashing faction at the bottom of my rep list. We should deffinately keep in touch...
If you've got a Skype address, kindly PM it through to me, and I'll see what I can drum up later today.
Of course, there's always the official OS&C faction, if you're looking for a few more people to hang out with. We're a quiet lot, but we party hard. I'll cut off my shameless self advertisement there but, by all means, take a look.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing the Illusion in space.
The.Glorious.Burden...Ahh, i'm going to assume this was indeed us CL} members that gave you this experience!
From a personal angle, it was pretty messy for us. Celestino cut you off but then realised you were a liner which...complicated things. Then another guy came through who I managed to extort some cash out of before you got away.
I did like the experience however, it was enjoyable and i'm glad that you found it to be a good experience. I'll relay this back the Lance. Next time, we may have equipment suitable for taking you down for your refusal

YES! It was you guys. I loved how when I first showed up, you had some npc outcasts with you. And then all of a sudden a bunch of other npcs showed up, police, escorts, the like.
After we had killed each other's reinforcements, it was like "Ok, where where we?".
Well, bring it on then. Ill have you know I've been developing a knack for escaping from pirate scum such as you.

Heh, indeed. being an Outcast is a pain rep-wise. Constantly things shooting at us and disrupting lanes before we want to.
Occasionally we may even have a Destroyer with us so...beware. Pirates in general only seem to be in fighters but we weren't expecting a liner. Mistake on our part, really.
Everytime I read a thread about piracy I'm tempted to write walls of text. However, since none would read or understand it, I'll just give you a brick of text.
No matter how much the pirate demands. No matter how much the pirate roleplays. No matter to what group he belongs or who he is. One will always whine and complain about piracy encounters. It's a trend.
And no matter how much you roleplay with a trader, he'll always try to sleek away while you're incautiously typing. Why? Because 90% of the traders trade for the profit. That's the point of a trader anyways in the first place. On the other hand, a pirate earns at most 5% of what a trader earns. Even with 20-million-demands.
If I'd have to calculate the credits I earned per trader I met on my rogues the last two years. It'd be far below 100.000 credits. Why? Because some traders do even prefer to die, over paying 100.000 credits to a pirate. No matter if paying would have been cheaper. Logical. No. Is there a point in speaking about inlogical topics? No.
