If I wanted shiploss on death, I'd go play EVE. But I like having fun, so I play Discovery.

The convenience of the respawn button is one of the things I like about the game. I just hit respawn and go RP somewhere else for a bit. No need to powergrind to replace my stuff.

this. if you want to go the EVE route, then you couldnt do it half heartedly. if you want ship loss on death, then you'd need to institute something like the insurance system from EVE as well, otherwise this server would become a ghost town super quick.

Yeah no, please keep your "zomg hardcore gaming" ambitions out of Discovery. This server needs more action, not more trading and loitering

no loss on death means that with time you will get everything and moneymaking will disappear for you

mostly all people here just dont see that credits are a major part of gameplay that is lost for any rich player, 'cos you can farm billion, get all ships you need and forget about good half of the game environment, since you dont need to interact with it like trading/missions/mining

this also leads to lolwuttery in space since nothing will bother you if you get blown, no care or other logic in actions

as a beginning, probably only top stuff shoud be lost on death, not ship or credits, then time will tell if this was a good idea

Personally speaking if there was shiploss on death I think it would drive people from the server. The reason I dislike EVE is for that very reason - I can loose whatever ship I have.

Ship loss on death could work, but there is something to consider.
Right now the more expensive ships are balanced to make them easier to kill with the small cheaper ships.
If you wish to bring about ship loss on death or a credit penalty system as punishment for those with bigger ships, then the ships should be balanced for such.

Of course no one wants to see a cap ship with super accurate antifighter weapons that have greater range than snubs and also cruise faster due to their thrust V's mass ratios.
CD's on board because it just makes sense, even more so than for smaller ships.
With shields that are nigh invulnerable to any small group of smaller ships.

So let's just leave things how they are?

And yes, Disco does need more trading, traders are the most important people in disco, they generate pirates, who genertate police. Traders generate action.

traders yes, they are needed. specifically, traders who RP.

what we dont need (and what xenosaga may mean is) are silent powertraders who dont RP and just try to thrust away.

Traders who RP are better sure. Powertraders are still better than no traders though, cos they provide activity for others to RP. Especially seeing as they dont tend to read the laws, and so can often be caught by the police for smuggling, or not having a license as well.

People are scared enough of losing a fight as it is.

If I might, just for a moment, draw everyone's attention to the fact that in reality no trader would start up a conversation with a pirate in space if the pirate asked him to stop.

If any ship asked the trader to stop, it would probably not comply and carry on to it's destination, unless it was a naval/police deal.

Silent traders are annoying because it's no fun, I get that, and I don't silent-trade for that reason.

However, assuming that we should set up a table with candlelight and violin music to confess our souls to each other over cakes (meoshi likes cakes) and tea is....insane.

I get why we do it, cuz two-party fun, but it's really not oorp to silently run from a hostile or unknown ship if your carrying millions of credits worth of cargo in space.
