I got almost the same idea a few days ago XD
It would all be good so long as you made it slow as a rock...and big as a base. You make it slow like a Barge (maybe a little faster) and so big there is no way it will be able to use a trade lane.
Maybe make it so you can only dock on a shipyard.
Maybe make it cost more...like 20 billion (seeing as some people can make 300+ million in a day) OR you have to ask a Admin to let you buy it, so you don't have stupid rich trollers getting them.

I think the appeal of this is that it won't be easily killed by snubs like battleships are now and it will make battleships usable.
My ideas to improve the concept are: Only one for each house. Outcasts and corsairs making efforts to build one.
Make them huge like barges with the same maneuvrability. Can only move through systems by jumping.
Not indestructible, just huge armor: 10x a dread.

This links to my thread about bombers. So if you nerf snacs or buff battleships you will make battleships usable.

I think there is a place for such a class of ship in the mod. But like i said they should be unique to each house and only one. Let the ship designers jump at the opportunity.

The proposed idea is only part of the solution. Still there are a way better ways to make ships hard to kill instead of making them impossible to kill. I agree on the turrets, same thing can be implemented effortless on the current battleships as well.
Very hard to destruct and 1 Month death penalty sounds a way better option.

'bout caps. Lol spazzy, don't you tell me this is because you couldn't do anything in your gunboat and later on in your cruiser.

We don't need ships that are based on the cheaters who kill stuff from 10km. "I want an eagle with freighter shield, cau VIII, infinite energy, nomad 2.00 guns, 2 defilers, titan's hull and sabre's strafing speed. I'll pay 5 billions. OP? What? I paid a lot for it!".

The only difference is that you're asuming the maintenance as a drawback in exchange of "no blue message for you" and "kill from 10km".

I dont agree, with this Idea. I think we should find a way to pew with what we already have.

If you run with your dreads and cruisers into a horde of fighters and bombers, well you gonna have a hard time. Better bring your own snubs next time!

Mixed fleet battles is the magic word imo...If you bring 5 snubs for every cap on the field, you wont have any more problems with bombers and fighters Wink.

Hey and just think about epic battles with 10 Fighters, 5 Bombers, 3 gb's, 2 cruisers and 1 dread on each side...man that would be fun.
Sure in such battles you have to start to use your brain, have to have some tactics and coordination and stuff...

Lets wait for .87. From what i've heard and read for now, snubs pews will change alot. Their impact will be even higher, than it is now, but they also will be able to kill each other faster. So that mixed fleet will make even more sense.

Caps as a whole should be limited to official factions only and with a limited number,balance out the number and you can make it free of cost for all i care,cuz there wont be battles where 10 fighters face 8 cap ships and win after after 2-3 hours *yawn*,so an invincible cap?
