Tic, firewall. Use the one built in to Vista for now, just let all FL related things through.

It's what I use, and it works great. It actually learns from what you tell it to do, so once you tell it Freelancer is safe, it will never bother you about it again.
AVG is just a antivirus protection. At least the free software.
Vista's own firewall is in the long run out of the question. It just thinks all MS software is entitled to use bandwidth as much as they please without any questions. There something very strange with Vista since even a disk defrag needs to access the net. So basic Vista "firewall" is a definite no-go.
Ok. Comodo seems very good but also a bit complex. I have tried installing it and it work. The only problem I had was that it did not let me play Freelancer. This is most probably due to settings so I'm asking a bit of help there.
I was not able to find the program list which are allowed to pass and not. It's "learning" but somehow it did not learn freelancer.exe to do whatever it pleases. Later on I failed to locate the menu used to control those programs.

Any help appreciated here. Thank you.
When you started up Freelancer, it should have prompted you with a little yellow box in the lower right corner. You would probably have to Alt+Tab out of Freelancer to see it though.
Next time you see it come up for "freelancer.exe" click it, then tell it that it's a trusted application. It should work from then on out.
I reinstalled COMODO last night and fooled around with it. Seems very good except that it did to me the same as Avast did. I was not able to connect to Disco server. I had all the ports open. Even the firewall disabled but no help. I had to take it away.
But when I stop playing Disco in some future date I'll remember this one since it looked very good. Thanks for posting it dopamino.
