I don't think the Roc bomber looked Freelancerish when it was introduced

Gallic ships didn't look freelancerish when they were introduced.
The big difference is, that the Roc was introduced to an already existing line, while sticking to that line's style to a sufficent degree that it does fit the line.
The Gallic ship lines came with the factions and Gallia. Don't get me wrong, I don't like Gallia, but I think they ships are not too unfitting, mostly. At least the lawful ones are quite fitting for Freelancer.

Your model here was suggested as an replacement for an already existing ship, which should be reintroduced in .87 btw, as well as an already existing line, or even two, depending on whether or not you have decided yet to want it as IMG or as CR. Though neither will want it. The IMG doesn't want battleships of their own, and the CR will get their already very great and excellently fitting (their own line) Zephyr back.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against new models. But those models have to fit the style of Discovery as it is now at least to some degree. They have to fit their faction, and if that faction already has a high quality ship line, they should also fit that. I can't really get behind some existing lines either, like the Zoner line, for example. But I guess that one has a different reason as well. Biggest factor should be, that one faction's ship line has the same "feel" to it, overall.

I don't want to discourage you from making models, I just wish to point out, that when making new models, one should keep in mind what already exists. And I, this being my opinion, feel like this model, with it's current shape and such, doesn't fit a non-alien, vanilla faction in Freelancer.

(PS: While IMG might not want their own BS ... I feel like they could really use a different cruiser. A battlecruiser just doesn't fit them. A light cruiser would be sooo much nicer. Also, the Corsairs are looking for a different light BS afaik, they want to get rid of the Osiris?! But... anyway... just a sidetracking a bit.)

As Syrus said, the Colonials have their very-fitting Zephyr and the "mixing of the lines" with the IMG has stopped for a few years now. Your model is ok, but I'm not a fan of the ridges on its back, nor the obvious horns and spikes for the distinctive Colonial feel.

While discussing the subject of lines, the Colonial one doesn't really need work. At least to me the Nyx, Thanatos, Zephyr are some of the best models in the game and the rest of them are at the very least suitable. I believe the Atlas is getting a slight update to its internal storage compartments (a solid block instead of the 'gas spheres') but other than that, they don't need any work. Hard-headed or otherwise, there are other lines that would do much better with some work.

Golly is also right, correct one would be the logo here, perhaps red for the Military (yellow is civilian, white/grey is Intelligence).

Very nice ship I like it...Especially those tubes(I call those arms tubes) Big Grin. For me that ship is for IMG good because it has that 'through asteroid floating' shape.

Nice giant enemy crab there. Needs a lot more work to reach the quality level the current models have if it's to be considered as a replacement.

I like the looks of it.

But I would really like Disco ship designers to think like IMG, Corsairs etc. would - if you are a miner's guild, you'd want ships that don't have stuff sticking out of it so you get stuck in asteroid fields. Same goes for Corsairs - surrounded by a billion asteroids, yet decided to throw giant horns on their Cruiser and Dread, perfect for getting stuck.

Tl;dr: While it looks cool, it would be cooler if it didn't have the "claws" and the front horns that are perfect for trapping one of those pesky tiny immovable asteroids.

In RP, your giant ship would brush those asteroids out of the way. The fact that ships clunk around through asteroid fields like they're in a pinball machine is sadly a limitation of the game.

Although, I think I remember a thread where someone pointed out the comet in Omega 3 was able to be pushed around. Could this possibly be applied to asteroid fields?

@Trogdor

it can be done - asteroids and small to medium blocks ( large, too but at some point it looks stupid ) can be indeed be brushed aside by high mass ships ( supertrandports or capital sized ships )

the problem is that many ppl would disapprove, cause they feel that caps gained too much for no disadvantage then. - or in short, ppl want capships to suffer in asteroid fields

Ok. Caps, in particular larger caps, should have some degree of difficulty in asteroid/debris fields. Plowing through planetoids will slow anybody's progess.

On the other hand, much of the asteroids/debris could be blasted into to dust or pushed away by the mass of the vessel. Unfortunately, the game engine limits our options in this regard. Disco's ateroids/debris chunks are unmoveable and impervious. This, if anything, can be interpreted as a immersion-breaking experience.

Imo, reasonable adjustments could be made to make navigating a large cap in a asteroid/debris field more "realistic", without breaking balance. Like adjustment Jinx alluded to.
