I prefer the transparency of the present system

I miss the old system.

Can we go back to it solely so I can ritually burn the technerf plugin code?

Retired, permanently.

This.

What good does it do to establish RP that you limit who gets your technology when now everyone CAN say, "I stole it." Remember how that used to be considered such a no-no that people were sanctioned for it?

And oh, we can now issue bounties for those people who are using our tech without permission. What frigging good does that really do?

It also doesn't matter if the faction leader was a dick, so long as he was a consistent dick about it. No, you can't have our stuff, and we mean it. Period. Hell, under the new rules, yes there'd be a tech nerf, but there's really NOTHING preventing someone from mounting all Nomad guns on their Gallic fighter. Hey, it's OORP to have that? Yeah, well, I stole them. Oh, that's okay then.

What a crock of fecal matter. (And yeah, I've just got home from a 11 hour day, I have to get up in 6 hours, and I've had 3 ounces of whiskey. What's your point? I can still type even though I'm now legally drunk.) And let's face it, guys. If it smells like fecal matter, it looks like fecal matter, and it appears to have the consistency of fecal matter, chances are it's not a steak dinner. (Unless you have a REALLY crappy (pun intended) chef.)

I'd argue a resounding no. Not because of the techchart per sec, but because this went along with the general theme of neutering official factions. Terrible terrible mistake. Look at the server pop difference.

Yeah I kinda miss the old way of doing things.
Not because of some super deep reasoning.
Simply put, it made loadouts more diverse.
Which also meant seeing -all- the pretty gun effects in use.
Not just the same ones. xD

But that's just personal preference..
I do wish they didn't neuter factions like that.

As I have a general distaste for official factions, I find the current system far better than what we had before. I think that one of the keys to writing a good story, is that it has to be something you want to write. Otherwise it just comes across as some stupid contrivance whose sole purpose is to get you the guns you're looking for. And when you do actually try to put forth the effort to do this, and the faction leader just goes, 'LOLNOPE', it's absolutely infuriating.

If you honestly think it's amusing to 'sit back and watch the rage that comes with it', well, I guess that's just one more reason for me to not like you.

I also feel that the current system makes more sense. You have 'okay, I can buy these guns that this faction is selling, because I'm friendly enough with them that they'll let me land on their base. However, since I'm not one of them and my homies aren't either, we can't properly maintain their equipment, so its performance suffers.'
Instead of 'Hm, my faction's mechanics have no idea how this tech works, but I got permission to use it so apparently that comes with a free technician manservant.'

Oh, and since I know you really like them so much, here's a present. Really.

Agmen. Dude. Put the whiskey down and step away from the plate of crap.

I know you remember what it was like before we had the tech nerf. We had a ton of grief concerning players getting OP guns on OP ships for their OP factions. There was absolutely no fairness, no level playing field for factions and players who didn't have access to the same equipment and ships.

If you were popular, you were able to (wink wink) get almost whatever you wished. If not, too bad, quit whining.

With the current technerf chart, a faction gets choices on what tech they can use, with what nerf, if any. This may be a dumbed down version of the old tech chart, but with people whining over any and every perceived disadvantage in gameplay (read infinite cloaks), it may just be a necessary one.

Also, at the time that the tech nerf was implemented, SRP's were discontinued. We had people screaming that their RP was stifled because they needed specific gun for specific ship, usually an OP configuration designed for anything but RP. With the current tech nerf, we could give them their RP configuration but protect the community from their OP ship of blue messages.

I can understand the resistance to the tech nerf as it is. But, people being what they are, I think it's definitely better for the community that it stay.

Oh wait, this is flood? Dang. Ummmm.....Boobies. There.

Why not a hybrid system? Gun/Ship compatibility plugin, and tech chart.

Limiting what guns work on any given ship makes sense in-RP (sometimes it's intentional, as RM ships and LN guns would be, sometimes an engineering issue like with Rogue lasers), and would help limit abuses of the system while still giving the flexibility and faction interaction of the old chart.
