Transactions Between Chars of the Same Account?

Say, we have character John owned by player Bob. Bob wants to reset his reputation with some of the factions he's pissed off so he can join them. Therefore, Bob decides that the quickest and easiest way would be to create a new character, to join this faction. Bob does this, and names his new character Jane. However, Bob doesn't want to do any missions (as to keep his rep with most people neutral), but he needs at least a better ship for his trek across the universe. Here comes along another player named Bill. Bill volunteers to be the middleman between John and Jane, so that Jane can buy new equipment without doing missions/killing people for the money.

Is this (or anything similar) allowed?

Joining a Faction

Quote:6.5 Buying faction ID does not automatically mean that player becomes part of appropriate server faction.

What must one do to join a faction?

Restricting Systems -> Level 30?

Quote:4.3 Factions are free to restrict or not restrict access to their home systems and tax players who enter home system. Access to systems that surround home system must not be restricted unless there's a war with another faction.

If a player is under level 30, is that person liable to being taxed, told to bugger off, or any of the like?

Thanks for reading,
Capt. Poo

As far as I know, there's no rule against transfers. It's how most of us get money to our other characters. Just be sure to find someone trustworthy to do it for you, because it's also not against the rules for your middleman to take the money and run. Rude, perhaps, and a good way to get a fat bounty, but not against the rules. Most people wouldn't do that, but be careful and take screenshots as insurance.

Joining a faction usually requires role-playing well and getting your name known a little bit. Offer help to folks, assist on missions, just be a helpful little guy to members of the faction you wanna join. After that, find the appropriate thread here on the forums and request to join. Taking a look at previous posts gives you an idea of how to format your request. After that, it's out of your hands and up to the faction leader(s). When I wanted to join the 66th Fighter Wing (outcasts), I helped out in Omicron Alpha and took part in several battles with faction members to get my name known and I got my reputation worked out so I was friendly with all the outcast allies. I got in as soon as I mustered the courage to ask.

As for under level 30, you can't be touched by anyone over level 30 unless you somehow manage to bring their shields down a substantial amount, which usually isn't possible even if you shot at them all day. Due to that, players really can't do anything to keep you out of restricted systems and they can't 'scare' you into paying a tax, but it's oorp to do anything like that. You're a guy in a crappy ship compared to them, so you should be soiling yourself and begging for your life.

I hope that clears things up a bit. Welcome to Discovery!

just to clarify...

Guard systems, which are ownable by player factions, give the player faction full rights inside that system. (youll know the systems, full of the toughest NPCs, usually hostile)

These factions can kill or tax anyone they like inside the guard system, including players under level 30.

Really? I didn't know that... I'd guess that if someone under level 30 wandered into a guard system, any player-characters would be pretty lenient though. Could someone find the rule stating this whole guard system thing? I've been looking and haven't found anything yet.

Quote:6.7 All PvP/RP rules listed below in section 6 are void in the following situations:

- Self-defense - level 30 limit is not active;
- Attacker and defender belong to two NPC factions that are at war (Kusari vs Bretonia, Outcasts vs Corsairs, House vs local pirates) - level 30 limit is active;
- Attacker and defender belong to two server factions that are at war (officially declared) - level 30 limit is active.
- In systems belonging to server factions and in Connecticut - level 30 limit is not active;

here.

Lenient! HAAA. Tell you what, go take a lvl25 character into Vespucci when the HF is online and hang out. They don't like people in there. Ever.

Also, I thought that if you did NOT have a Civilian ID and instead had a faction's ID under Lvl 30, you were fair game, but apparently they've since changed that rule...pays to re-read the rules occasionally. :)

Normally getting help to set up a character from one of your other characters is accepted and encouraged. (Admin will even help with the transfer if they are on-line and bored.)

However, there is one exception that is frowned upon and your scenario sort of touches on it.
[I think it does break one of the rules but I can't remember which one]

It is NOT ALLOWED to transfer ID's between characters whether from one of your own characters to another or through a 3rd party (by getting him/her to buy it for you.
E.g. If you want to be a Freelancer you have to go to the pain of getting on well enough with one of the selling factions to be permitted to buy it.

(I personally think it is perverse for this to be the case for generic ID's such as trader, smuggler, pirate and freelancer but I don't make the rules. Also I think IDs should be much more widely available as trying to even find some of the little blighters can take an absolute age).

I agree with your little commentary at the end; generics are really hard to find, and if someone who owes you money pays up when you are too far away/don't have good enough rep to get a legal ID, you get hosed. Repeatedly. (The person I pity probably knows who they are) Methinks generics should be available everywhere, and purchasable at fairly low rep (like upper dislike), otherwise it is entirely possible for there to be a person who has only one or two places they can buy IDs, and they're halfway across sirius. Just my .02$

Alright. I wasn't talking about ID transfering, so I suppose I'm set on that.

As for the level 30 one, I was told to leave Magellan (Pirate System?) because I was affiliated with the navy (same person killed me before while undocking, so I guess that's a double whammy). Now I know. Not that it matters, I'm nearing level 40 now.

So, uh, yeah. Thanks eveyone! :D
