How is SRP'ed ships and items going to encourage faction activity?
It won't, it will hurt it. SRP's are too hard to get, not to mention 250 mil is nothing to sneeze at. I know I would not be willing to risk losing 250 mil on a no, it takes too long to make. Also many players don't visit or register on the forums. There is also the issue that MANY players don't speak English so you will never get RP from them.
SRP are quite different topic than faction activity. At least until official faction could have caps without SRP. Because you usually need there to climb up few ranks before you are allowed to fly caps. And in this time you have to prove exactly what indies proves in SRP. That you know rules, you speak english and you can at least basically RP.
Also the fee can be different and lower for SRP capital ship request, better name it capital ship licence. 50 million? 25? Why not, ship itself is expensive. It is mainly about that responsibility. These days, the worst sanction you can get is losing armor/guns/cloak, because you have to be really nasty to get ship deleted or to be banned. But those things are just money. Many players don´t care about money, you can earn them easily and quickly if you have big transport and know how to make money. But when you know you can lose access to capital ships completely, to all of them - that is real punishment and reason to watch what you do.

And that´s bad. How they can know rules and changes in them if they don´t visit forums? We saw how it ends when for example rule which prohibited shooting transport in caps was removed. How much rage and qq was ingame for first few weeks. Or when trader´s docking exception during PvP were for some time completely removed.

And this is even more bad. Those were always tolerated here, why not. But why should we take them into consideration? They are one of the sources of all that silent traders or "2mil, pay or die" pirates. Those are causing disappointment between players which try to find RP encounter and everything they get is "give me 2 million, pay or die" and "fire" (happened to me few days ago, I asked pirate simple question what will I get for my money and only answer was that, also with "pay me").
And that is the better case when they know at least two or three sentences. So why should we take as problem that players - which as you said yourself will never RP - can´t have caps anymore? And on the contrary - why people who are at least trying to RP, to make atmosphere ingame - be it officials or indies - should not be rewarded with access to something special?
??
I agree 100% that those that don't speak English or don't visit the forums... is a bad thing for the server and for RP.
But they exist and probably always will, they will buy caps and not RP. I was simply pointing out some flaws to the SRP approach.
That said I still don't agree with SRP caps. How hard will it be to get one? How much RP will be needed to get one? Will you have to have a month of RP on the forums for that Cap before you can get it? What if someone just doesn't like you? Are you gonna lose your credits if the answer is no? (Like it is now) Why would it have to cost credits?
Clearly many players here know allot more about making credits then me, I scrap metal, and it does pay 11.5 mil per load, but it still takes (depending on the field yield... which is usually low) 4 hours or so to make 100 million (allot quicker if the right field is high yield, but they deplete too fast!)
If the point is just to prove that you speak English and can RP (shown in the request), then sure.. whatever, but is anything ever that simple? No. Once that door is open, eventually it will be WHY do you want a cap, WHAT will you do with your cap, etc etc etc...
Its just a bad idea IMO, but I respect you feel differently and I'll go along with whatever happens.
Maybe you should forget name SRP. Really. Name it Capital ship licence. The main point of it for me is not approval proccess. My point of view - make it quite easy. Like 25 million, 10 sentences about captain and ship history. Makes the text sense (no 14 years old captains anymore please)? It is understandable? Good give him green.
The main thing about this is possible punishment. "Your license may be revoked for heavy offense against -add house- laws or the rules." Something like that, no need to remind it will need definition and it can be abusable (what can´t be...), I know it.
But you have finally something what player is really afraid off. "So you swore heavily in system chat and then blow up somebody without single word? Say bye to your cruiser. Wait, you also helped with your Navy cruiser to unlawful against other lawfuls because he was your friend? Say bye to all your cruisers." This could be real punishment for somebody who want caps. So he has to watch what he does.

But we really went off topic from OP...
The problem isn't and never was or will be the ship but the person who's beyond the computer, ergo your proposal will only make them into changing ships and after will be implemented.. we will find our self discussing over same topic just about a different ship(maybe a GB this time..or better..a freaking light fighter <3 )
People want to believe that God has a plan for them.
They don't wanna believe that anyone else does..
Im confused as to whether this topic is about people in battelships named bob.the.indie (example), or whether its about organised non-faction players, or just random people, or what.
because ive yet to see a single point made which i could identify my faction with, and we arent official and dont ever plan to be.

I agree 100%-- however, since this was a thread that Jinx made because another thread got off-track and folks simply shambled over here to grouse about the same things, I think anything we do will add kerosene to the fire.
Any discussion of factions will go off track, stay off track, refuse to get back on track.
What do do? For that I will go to those old guys from the Muppet Show, Statler and Waldorf:
Waldorf: If at first you don't succeed... Statler: Give up.
