Eris forgives you, Xoria; but She has directed me to abstain for the time being.

I will however bore you with some old fart reminiscences..

Years ago I mined gold for months in Dublin, getting the feel of things. I then joined two rather sleepy factions, Davy Jones' Crew and the Yakuza, gaining a bit more experience and confidence until they both died from ennui.

About that time, a certain shadey CEO reached out, and I found myself in the IND. Concurrently with that, the Goddess chose to Goose me.

Now, in retrospect, I believe that if this "Faction Proposal" were submitted today, I would be laughed off the forums as a "YAIF", or "yet another imported faction".

Times have changed. Our mod's and server's popularity is both a blessing and a curse. Should we be neophobics, or neophiliacs? Should we embrace the Hodge, or the Podge?

Sic nil Pinealus percolatus...

Mal

No thank you. I can see alot of ideas from less popular people going the road of Galileo and, getting hung for being different. People are scared of new concepts. This is a game and this should be the one place were a new concept should not be feared. Some clans have temperary usefullness and will die out, fine. Some maybe there for ever, fine. But to force membership into a role not really desired just to get approval. I see also new members to these established clans that disappear after only a week. Is that enough time. I've seen people have difficulties getting into a clan. I myself posted a psudoclan attempt as one of my first post and didn't even get a discussion. Just "no". I've had top learn quite abit about Disco taboos and, now I'm not proposeing a clan until I have every detail worked to the hilt. I do have something in the works about 2 months old now but its not ready. I can say its a Yin to Zoner Yang. I want to build history with it first. Now I fully exspect to be shot down since I've never been in a clan here. I don't really feel that vibe I need from any of the present clans now, except maybe Zoners. I am not downing anyones work and I like to interact with the other clans. I just say, I'm a think out of the box type of person. If my RP disturbs you PM me ooc and I'll back off and have my mates back off as well. If you can hang, then lets play.

I type all this to state I dis agree and my personal situation has alot to do with it. I can be judged as a bad RPer by someone who knows nothing of my back story or great, but if Clan membership is prerqusite then people like me would be subject to the uninformed opinions of clan leaders not wanting a player they don't understand in thier midst. Many have the impulse to mark anything they don't get as wrong. Now if it passes I can play any role but since I'm not being paid to act I'm trying to play the role I want. If I chose to make a clan I will probally post under a AKA, anyway that would have the faction name as the poster of faction request thus haveing starflier rank and unknown status to all anyway even if I was a clanner.

This makes an established power base, Mal you old Facist.:P Dont get worse than Liberty on me.

So, no thanks friends.

PS sorry Mal thought you started post. Nevermind the Facist part:$

I think the longer a person RP's on the server, the more they forget the way they felt in the first weeks they spent mapping outside of New York.

I remember the first time I flew into Bretonia as a noob, & got blown away shortly after not reading the warning to me in syschat...my last words were: 'Oooh cool! a Battlestar!'

2 or 3 weeks later, & all excited to gain a toehold in Edinburgh, I came up w/ a Gaian faction idea that I never truly pitched...I learned very quickly how much work was involved in keeping up with it & decided to 86 the idea, & keep my faction as a tiny cast of characters within one of my threads.

I agree that people should spend a little time in a faction to get the hang of what it would be like for them, but it shouldn't be discouraged if someone wants to dart out of the gate running.

After all, it's the wild-eyed crazies that shake society into change.

The effects can be either positive or negitive, but it's never, ever 'bad'

Surprisingly, I voted No.

The reason being the fact that some new players occasionally come up with great ideas for new factions, and the fact that it is largely unnecessary to do this.

It's a great idea, Xoria, but it would really just be putting a de facto law on paper. Occasionally, it might become very clumsy. Factions require player support to be approved, and frankly, most players know what to and what to not approve.

A good idea, but unnecessary.

I agree with the resounding "No." in this thread. My entire opinion was stated by Jinx, chopper, Mal and the others.

However I am thankful that this is voiced and discussed - all in a civilized manner. And I can relate to you Xoria, and the reasons why you thought about it.
Really, sometimes, I want to give this community a hug.

I see no reason to prohibit people from organizing in whatever faction they want. OFFICIAL status is what matters. Further, if they end up doing dumbtastic things, then they'll wind up with sanctions as it is.

I voted no. There have been some terrific indies who would suffer from this. We need a solution, but I don't think this is it.

voted yes, though I'd disagree on many exceptions. there are decent independents out there. not many, and most of them do not submit factions anyhow because they prefer the freedom of independence, nonetheless, they should have the right to.

on another hand, it does help contains the useless imported factions with no rp and other craps.

But the community is typically well-informed enough to knock those factions down. The idea is a good one, just unnecessary. We members have the sense to choose what is let into the fold, and what is not...we've got our eyes open for wolves in sheep suits.;)
