Just cast your vote, interested in the generally view on it. They aren't of course, and that isn't a matter of opinion. I just want to see how many people actually have it figured out.

Any PvP that is NOT adhering to RP, happens to have a rule against it. This is just the same as somebody going "LOL OMG" in system chat and getting sanctioned for it. They're really just the same thing.

PvP is just another form of roleplay. However it's a bit more thrilling and skill based.

You don't look like a Vorlon. Or a Zen Buddhist. Or a high elf.

What are you?!

PvP done right, IE, if done as your character would to PLAY in a ROLE would be part of roleplay.

PvP done wrong would be when it's not conducive to the role of your character - in which case, it's not.

Either way, looking at PvP happening from the outside in should feel as much a part of the RP environment as anything else, and if it doesn't, something is wrong.

And as I said, there is a rule against that particular infraction. It would be like saying "Talking isn't a part of roleplay because some people use smiley faces!"

It's just another tool provided by the game engine to help a person play their character.

Other.

I mean, for PvP to "truly" be RP, the outcome would have to depend on the pilots' inRP traits and skills. This is obviously not the case. A good PvPer who joins a new faction and is thus effectively a "fresh recruit" is likely not going to deliberately lose fights.

But in a way, it's still roleplay. Freelancer's universe is one full of conflict. In-game combat is a logical result of that.

Of course they are.

I've been told numerous times that I'm a dirty PvProstitute who - since I lead krieg into Magellan and New London so much - am obviously all but worthless at actually roleplaying.

How could you think otherwise? It's obvious that doing one means you're awful at the other.

I really hope that
I don't have to state that
this is sarcasm.

^that^

But I will say, aside from a few examples (I'm not gonna inflate or deflate any egos) the personality types that favor one over the other tend to do so in very nearly exclusive ways.
Meaning that one is used as an on-ramp to the other more than for its sake alone.

As constructions - no - one is not mutually exclusive of the other.
In practice, they can and do tend to be - in many (leaning towards most) cases,

But this is the nature of people - not the game
