PRISONER ID: 20378965
LOG DESCRIP.: Interrogation of Suspect: Humphrey Burlington, known Molly and suspected of an instance of murder and vehicle hijacking.

DAY 1

A tall, well-built, man with red hair and beard is led into a small room with a low ceiling and metallic walls by two other men dressed in standard BPA attire. In the room is a tall stool, similar to one of those stools that were so common in the many pubs that lined the streets of New London, except, it was metal. Directly above the seat was a glass disk. To either side of the disk were two fluorescent lights, that sufficiently lit the room. Facing the stool is a wall entirely made of what appears to be a mirror.

The two BPA officers shove the man into the room. The man snarls and lumbers over to the high stool.

"Sit!" commands one of the BPA officers. The other flourishes a baton, pressing a button at the club's hilt. A quick, sharp, humming noise erupted from the black colored club, along with a flash of blue at its tip. With this, the man simply glares, and sits down on the stool. The BPA officers slowly fell backwards, walking backwards out the door, and bolting it shut once they were outside.

Suddenly, with a loud clank, the lights in the room dim. The man on the stool is enveloped in darkness.

A loud, distorted, mechanical voice with random stresses rings into the room

STate YoUR nAmE FoR the RECord.

With a dim humming, the glass disk above the man on the stool lights up, and creates a concentrated beam of light that blasts over the man.

* * *

On the other side of the mirror, several members of the Bretonia Police Authority watch the man through the reinforced one-way mirror in a dim conference room with a small table in it. The officers sit around the table. At the head of the table, a slightly graying, barrel-chested, moustached officer presses a button on an intercom before him.

"State your name for the record."

* * *

sTAte yOur NamE fOR The rECORD.

The man in the small interrogation room looks at the mirror wall. He scowls.

"Humphrey Burlington," says the man in a thick Dubliner accent.

* * *

The man at the foot of the table, Sir Alan Lauderdale, turned to the BPA officer to his right. "Now, you go for it. We're all going to contribute to this, and don't forget the ground rules...If you need to speak to Burlington in person, make sure you go in with a guard. But realize that at that point, the voice distorter won't be able to protect your anonymity."

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ON-FORUM RP EVENT The Interrogation of Humphrey Burlington:

Once the independent thread is posted in the general RP forums section of the forums, feel free to toss questions at Humphrey. Please, please, only post one question in each post, and wait for Humphrey to respond BEFORE posting again. This means that if Sleipnir posts, fpsdoug should wait for Burlington(RPed by me) to post before he can post his response.

He might answer these questions, or he might not. His responses will be determined by how you phrase your questions and the content of the questions themselves.

For instance: If you decide to play "good cop," you might want to calm the guy down first, then ease him into answering questions. Of course, this might not work if Burlington is not scared.;)

In addition to Burlington's responses, his mood will be described in each of his posts. For instance: Sleepy, Disinterested

The thread will be posted very soon. Think of some good questions to ask Burlington! The amount of information that we find out about the incidents will depend on you!

Captain Bruce Scott motions to the guard that he wants in. He is let in and asks Burlington a question.

"So shorty, when are you going to start growing?" The guard whispers in Scott's ear.

"Ah, yes of course Mr. Guard. WHY DID YOU KILL CARLYLE!" Scott screamed and then whispered to the guard.

"Is that better?"

Burlington almost fell out of his chair he was so surprised, the other BPA officers chuckled.

Constable Brian McNab enters room.
*In a thick Scottish accent* "Capt'n, do you mind if I take over for a bit?"
As the captian didn't seem to mind, Brian began his run on the prisoner.

He asked to bring a bowl of water, big enough so the prisoner could put his bare feet in, and a rope.
After 5 minutes, the prisoner was now tied down to the chair with his bare feet inside the bowl of water.
Constable Brian than took out his Shock Baton out of it's holster.
"The info we gathered link you to the murder of Commissioner Carlye. You now have two choises:
1) You tell me the truth about your connection to this murder.
2) You try to lie to me.
For the first option, you will get a dry towel, your shoes back on and a nice cup of tea with buscits.
For the second one... well.. "
As saying that, Constable McNab moved his baton an inch away fromt he soft part of the prisoners knee cap.

*with a slight devilish smile on his face* "So... what will it be..."

Burlington: WHAT IS THIS?!!?!? You're police! You can't do this!!! This is torture!

Turns to mirrored wall

You can't let him do this! You can't!!

---------------------

With a devilish grin, McNab held his stun baton closer to the bowl filled with water. He pressed a button next to the baton's hilt, and with a low hum, blue sparks suddenly erupted from the tip of the sleek, gunmetal stick.

---------------------

Burlington(jumps): ARGH! Don't let him do this!!!

Suddenly, the mechanical, distorted voice-cloaker rang though the interrogation room.

MistER McNAB, yoU wiLL stOp ThaT iMmeDiatelY. ReTurN tO the MeEting RooM NoW.

Burlington drew in a loud breath of relief. McNab scowled and walked out of the room, but not before flourishing his baton over the bowl of water again.

Leaning over to Burlington's ear, McNab whispered, "Don't think it is over between you and me mate. I'll be back soon enough."

Burlinton glared at McNab, but said nothing.

Jeremy Whitacre motioned to the nameless guard, who, head not moving, thumbed the door open. He made a slight 'uppity' motion with his hands, and the aforementioned guard slid one of the knobs on the door lock upward. The lights raised to a more manageable level, and Jerry strode inward, removing his cap and putting on his best old-man smile.

"Hello, Humphrey, mate. I'm Jeremy. You can call me Jerry if you'd like. I'm sorry about Constable McNabb, he's a bit direct, if you get my meaning. Here, let me help you with that." He quickly bent down and removed the bucket of water from under Burlington's feet, who was visibly shivering. "There. Sergeant, could you go find us a towel? There's a good chap. The Constable hasn't read up on procedure lately, apparently, the handbook doesn't allow that kind of interrogation technique unless it involves a known terrorist...anyways, Humphrey, I need you to answer some questions for me so I can let you on your way. Can you tell us absolutely everything about where you were on the night of March 14th?

While the other BPA officers continued questioning the suspect, Brian and Sir Alan retreated to Christy's for a short tea break and to discuss Brian's "Unorthodox" method of questioning.

//ooc see the christy's thread for that conversation.

Burlington:

Relieved, sits back, but almost falls over due to lack of a backrest.

Interrogation Efficiency: Beginning to Speak

"Look, officer, get that bastard bobby away from me!" exclaimed Burlington at Whitacre.

"Don't worry, Humphrey," said Whitacre reassuringly, "But tell me where you were on the 14th, and what you were doing..."

After taking a look to make sure that McNab had left and hearing the door bolt, Burlington turned to Whitacre.

"Look guvna," said Burlington, "I didn do nothin'. On the night o' the 14th, I was just in my Wolfie, strolling 'round New London, lookin' fo' somethin' to shoot, ya know? Then, all of a sudden, this other mate in a Templar starts cruisin' in my direction. My first reaction was like, 'Holy! I gotta scram, the bobbys are comin!' The guy CDs my ship, and I come to grindin' halt."

Burlington stopped to take a breath, and using his two manacled hands, jesticulated one ship chasing another. Meanwhile, Whitacre nodded.

"The mate, without sayin' a word, opens a trade channel wit me," continued Burlington, "He then goes, 'I got a simple little job, mate, and you can either do it for 8 million, or you can eat my tachyons.' I figure, EIGHT MILLIONS??? I took the job on the spot. He transfers over this box to me."

"A box?" asked Whitacre, brow furrowing.

"Aye, guvna, a box," replied Burlington.

"Did you know what was in it?" asked Whitacre.

"Well...er...no..." hesitated Burlington. The suspect glanced at the glass. "I didn' know what was in the box."

Suddenly, Burlington shrunk away from Whitacre. "I don't know anything else, and I'm gonna keep shutmouthed from now on. You can't do nothing to me!!"

Why does he seem that nervous... he must know more! I guess it's my turn... Joshua thought.
Joshua stood up in the room behind the mirror wall and whispered something to the guard at the door. He nodded and exited. Joshua followed him out of the room.

Whitacre was at his wits' end, Burlington seemed too scared to spill the beans about that box. The door to the interrogation room opened, Joshua entered with a bottle and two glasses in one hand, nodding to Whitacre.

"Hey, Jerry, why not get some tea? It's break time for you now, I think."
Whictacre understood and left the room, leaving Joshua with Burlington. Joshua pulled a small table and a folding chair from the corner of the room, put down the bottle and glasses on the table in front of Burlington and sat down.

Poor guy, he really seems overwhelmed by all of what's going on...
Joshua began to speak in his usual, polite way.
"G'day Mr Burlington, my name is Joshua. I totally agree with Jeremy, you deserve a fair treatment, even as a suspect."

Joshua opened the bottle and poured a bit of the golden fluid in both glasses.
"Here. I hear you guys like that Dublin Whiskey. That should help you calm down."

The Sergeant took a sip of his one after he handed the Molly the other glass. Joshua crossed his legs in the most relaxed way he could and continued.

"You know, I think we both should put our cards on the table. I will tell you a bit of what we know and you will do the same for me. Deal?"
As the Molly continued to look at him in a slightly uncertain way, he began with his part.

"Alright. You see, we recovered that box you were talking about. And, what we found in it seems related to another crime. A murder. That's why you are arrested right now.
As you claim to be innocent, it is only good for you if you tell me something in order to lift the suspicion on you. Did you look into the box? And I need to know everything you know about that Templar."

Joshua took another sip and waited for Burlington's answer.
I hope my suspicion is correct... that Constable I talked to before entering the room hopefully got the message to the forensics. We need to investigate the wreck for further evidence...!

Burlington:

Very calm, seems confident, smiles and chuckles.

Interrogation Efficiency: Unknown

"Hehehe," chuckled Burlington, sipping on his Dublin Whiskey, "Murder? You shoulda told me this earlier...Then we would have had a wonderful laugh together, Mr....uhhh...what was it?"

"Cooper," said Cooper.

"Right...right, Cooper." Burlington paused and sipped. "I didn't commit any murder, Mr. Cooper. And if you still believe that I did...you can check it against my C-O-2, scrubbers. Aye, they've been working overtime. Sure, I was in orbit of ole' en-el the 14th, but I sure didn't land, either."

Cooper leaned forward, interested. "Now, what was in the box?"

Burlington chuckled and looked down.

------------------------------------------

Inside the room, Sir Alan and the others watched. Suddenly, a mechanical, yet feminine voice rang out through the speak in the ceiling.

"Deviations from Previously Recorded Speech Patterns Detected."

"Deviations from Previously Recorded Speech Patterns Detected."

"Burlington?" asked Cooper, "You alright?"

Burlington grunted, simply looking down at the floor of the room. "You want to know what was in the box?"

------------------------------------------

"Deviations from Previously Recorded Speech Patterns Detected."

Sir Alan stood up slowly. "McNab, Vimes, get Mr. Cooper out of there. Whitacre, get a medic, stat. Trevelyan, Roxburg, Lawrence, come with me. Scott, you stay here. Until I'm back, you're in command."

"Deviations from Previously Recorded Speech Patterns Detected."

------------------------------------------

Cooper motioned towards Burlington, putting the glass of whiskey down. "Humphrey?"

Without looking up, the man sighed heavily. "I.....was in that box....."

------------------------------------------

"Deviations from Previously Recorded Speech Patterns Detected........Advise caution."
