Phew. What a read that was!
Ok, so. It appears that we may have arrived here without the required encyclopaedic knowledge of the server rules and rp laws. You'll have to forgive us for that, but as Cherry said, we arrived cold from vanilla FL, and for some of us it's been a while since we flew a ship.
That being said, I want to put across a personal, ooRP opinion that is not related to GBS; a lot of the RP I have engaged in with "lawful" faction players is bloody awful (the fine people of CR aside, of course)
I was present at the original "Gunboat" scenario. Looking back, that was actually some well played RP; jokes were had, inRP views exchanged, the situation played put and eventually resolved. We had a slight mess up, LN did their job, everyone acted their part. It became part of our backstory and I would happily shake hands or lend Zoe assistance in the future, should the occasion arise or our paths cross.
However, It says something when the "pirate" factions are more honourable than the lawful players. So far I have been accosted by pirates while transporting goods on a trade run. On both occasions the situation played out well; we RPd, negotiated, terms were agreed. In one case I was free to leave on my journey with a polite goodbye and well wishes for my trip.
In the other case, I was fortunate enough to have a GBS ship nearby who was going to arrive to lend me protection from the pirate. As that was happening, two LN battleships appeared. The first thing they did? One of them blew my trader out of the sky. No warning. No request to investigate the situation or request that I drop my contraband.
On my GBS char, I sent a message to 5th Jack.Oneil informing him that there were two non-tagged but Navy ID'd ships present in Cortez (by that point). Apparently they were newbies who were working on their reputation with the Navy.
Full marks to 'em for being professional!
Our original mission was to be an independent, lawful good faction that was there to help out the little guy. Encounters since then have shown that the certain groups don't want to share that pie, which is fine (why I don't know, but whatever).
A big issue, to me anyway, is that it seems certain people are incapable of not holding a grudge across chars. Personally I will happily talk with anyone, regardless of their characters, with no bias or prejudice related to past encounters, so long as the same courtesy is returned.
Problem with Liberty is that there is so much new players which still don´t know how to (role)play and behave (some of them even never read rules actually), despite they even already have capital ships. So pro tip - if you see untagged lawful, don´t expect much and let them suprise you. Sometimes they are great, sometimes they even don´t know laws they should force, sometime they are completely stupid or want to troll you. If they break rules, report them, you will help ingame experience for all players by doing this.
If it´s tagged, it should be better (despite some unofficial factions are...well, not best example so to say) and they behave bad, try to find their feedback thread (here for unofficial factions, here for official ones) and say it there. Most of faction leaders care what their members do (especially when they do something wrong, because usually some new members do most mistakes because they don´t know everything what they should).
This is internet community with everything what it brings. We have great people, and we have trolls, stupid people and players who can´t differ between inRP and ooRP attitude.
If you have bad experience, try some other part of Sirius than Liberty. Generally situation is worst there (but of course you can meet idiot everywhere just like in real life).
