"So shes the one.. eh. Though leaving you here because of dangerous work? Must be one heck of a job.."
A moment passes until she realizes what Ivy just said.
"Life is complicated..."
That single sentence had her head starting to remember a very distant memory.
A rather unpleasant one a that. As she remembers it, she puts her hand in front of her left eye, to make sure no-one sees the single teardrop come out.
"Of all the times.. it just had to be now..?" She silently whispers to herself.
Looking up, studying the woman in front of her curiously. The slight contraction of the muscle, and the abnormal hand movement to the face.. Perhaps it's just nothing.
"Eh? Did you say something? I don't think I said anything bad.. At least I hope not.."
Taking a moment to stand in front of her. "I'm not good with people, not in the slightest.. If I said anything, i'm sorry. I just really don't know what's socially acceptable or not. I've been alone for so long.." Trailing off slowly.
"I guess that can apply to me, in a way.." The memory still boggling her already tired mind. Not seeming to go away for the moment. "And you said nothing wrong.. Just.. nevermind me."
If anything else, that memory was far worse than any nightmare she has gotten.
"There are somethings that are best to be... forgotten. Sighing for a bit before making another remark. "And I'm not doing it well.." Her legs eventually give up, making her sit down on the ground.
Ivy crouches down next to her, looking at her slightly worryingly. "Hey, you sound like you have a lot on your mind.. I knew a few people that Tara used to work with that were.. kinda like this, It's.. hard to explain.. I know you hardly know me, but is there anything you want to talk about? Will that make you feel a little better?"
She indeed did not know this person well at all, although anguish was always something that she couldn't stand seeing.
"Ellie? I know some things should be just.. left behind, I have a few things like that behind me as well, but.. Just letting it build up without anyone just makes it worse.. I was the same way until Tara helped me through it.."
Glancing up. "She's a nice person, she just doesn't like to show it.. So? Ellie, talk to me."
A few seconds pass until her expression changes. Into a really creepy grin.
"Makes it worse.. heh...ehe. I even managed to be suicidal once and survive through it.. Does that make me crazy..? Or what am I..? Just another person with no past or family anymore..? Oh.. thats right. It's all of them.. haha.."
An instant later, her body starts shivering a bit. Enough to be noticeable. The reason for it, however, could be anything.
Sean had been fiddling with his PDA the entire day so far. He didn't pay attention who interrupted his constant fiddling around; he just laid it aside and muttered:
"Coming up..."
He grabbed a glass from below the table and turned around to the beer barrel. Then he carefully drew it and faced his customer again, when the woman's appearence aroused his interest.
Almost immediately changing his mien from languid to keen, he welcomed her with a delighted tone.
"Oh, it's you! Didn't pay attention"
Sean placed the glass infront of her.
"How are you? Back so soon, yet?"
Looking at the brownish liquid, taking a few sips. Pausing for a moment as if judging the taste, she nods in approval.
"Back already? I never said this was going to be a perminant thing. Regretfully I am not able to stay around as long as I want, but.. I can spare some time to visit Ivy for half a day or so. Bah.. It's going to be nice to finish with this assignment."
Taking another sip from the beer that she was given.
"How is she anyways. I assume she found you. She hasn't been alone like this really in the past before.."
Looking up at Sean with a look he hasn't seen too often before. Genuine concern.
"Although I suppose todays culture dictates that being pushy like this isn't appropriate conversation after the greeting.."
Mumbling something to herself, turning her attention back to the beer given to her.
"Well, I didn't expect you to follow certain order anyways. On the other handed side, I really don't give a damn", Sean said with a almost not visual grin.
"Ivy? Haven't seen her for some time. I was talking to her some days ago. She seemed to like it here, although this place is somewhat boring to her, I suppose."
Putting on a more serious face, Sean continued with:
"I guess you're still not going to tell me what exactly you're doing?"
Not mirroring his facial expression in the slightest, still looking worryingly down at the glass which was half-empty at this point.
"Boring? This place? For Ivy? Now that I honestly can't believe. I'll talk to her later about that I suppose.."
Finishing another part of her beer.
"You wouldn't believe me, even if for some ungodly reason I actually decided to tell you. It's not really worth wasting the effort in summarizing the entire deal anyways. As far as you need to know, i'm merely a researcher. And that's the truth. Half of it at least, i've taken a position at another facility up in the Omicrons for some point of time."
Ivy places a hand on Ellies back gently. She couldn't do much, but still..
"Hey.. A year ago, I thought the same way that you are talking about right now.." Slowly pulling up her short-sleeved shirt up to the shoulder, revealing three gashes. Scars. The wound has long since healed as time allowed her body to recover, however that mark would always be upon her skin.
"Life isn't all flowers and roses, I know that first-hand.. Does that make you crazy? No.. All that it means, is you're not looking onto the future. That's what's keeping me going nowdays."
This time her expression changed to that of a traumatized and lifeless face. Her eyes wide and empty. And her hand moved away from the left part of her face.
"You don't even know what I mean by crazy.. By crazy, I mean something an ordinary person shouldn't even be able to survive.. Not to mention Iota.." Her right hand forms into a fist, wanting to hit a wall so badly it would bleed. "Losing my family outright in a pyre... What future do you have anymore at that point?!" She stops for a moment, staring at Ivy with a rather menacing look for a few seconds. Then stands up. Looking like she wants to just leave.
"I hope I didn't bother you. If you have something else to say, then say it. Otherwise.." A bit of a reluctant tone. "Just.. get away from me.. I'm not exactly good company unlike your sister."
