Sarissas and Ranseurs, these days. Just fly away, they wont do anything other than shooting you without a word.

Cruisers and BSes can't pirate in practice. Their thrust speed is 130 m/s, so even the heaviest transport can just thrust away, and if you are caught on a lane at a range of 100 meters, then you were probably afk trading, and in that case you fully deserve that.

I sometimes run into pirates intentionally. Because trading can get too boring if you meet noone.

Point is, in the times you remember there was a rule about anything bigger than gunboats being forbidden to shoot at transport ships and liners, which since then became abused by a lot of folks who shouldn't have abused it, and thus it got removed.

I usually do that too. I even fly with nothing higher than UAU 8, (and if it has lots of base armor, not even that) just to give me the thrill of being pirated.

Kinda weird.

Pirating in a cap is about unbalance. As in, a balance shifted towards the cap. But there are drawbacks, like speed and lack of CD for the BS's. So its not totally in favor of the larger ships. A small transport even a ship like a firefly could escape a cruiser if you know what you're doing.

It's a bit disbalanced, because of player's lack. When there are pretty much players, you can hire a scout. You know... it works more than fine. Personal experience from Platinum| times. You will laugh at any pirate's face.

Just some few questions? Since when its permited to pirate with ships above GBs and what was the motive to allow it?

I remenber a time when the limit was GBs and now i see Cruisers and BSs pirating. If there are complaints about "above the lane traders", "jump traders", etc, have anyone thought that this happens because anyone can pirate in those ships? "Hey i m a poor pirate, 10 mill or die" Common people, since when?

G.

Since about 2 years ago, check the news and announcements.

The motive is 1: It makes no sense that a cap would let an enemy transport past freely. Wether it was a lawful cap and a smuggler, or an unlawful cap and a trader.

And 2: I believe it was to do with the other rule change preventing dead transports from returning to the system I.E: Base sieges. As itd be ridiculous to have transports hanging around a besieged base waiting to resupply it while the caps besieging it can do nothing to stop them.

Basically it only doesn't make sense because people have gotten used to it, nowhere in freelancer lore does it say caps dont shoot transports, quite the opposite. In the storyline Battleships were used in mission 2 to try to catch a smuggling convoy at the Jumpgates.

As for Jump traders ect: I think they'd do this anyway, for one thing as others have said, caps arn't even particularly good at pirating now, as BSs have no CDs, and cruisers are slower than transports.

The thing is... i like to get pirated. Also i like to pirate. But at one point, for me personaly, i found kinda weird to see caps pirating. I think is useless waiting at a lane, or misplaced resorce that should be use to other more important things. The same way i always thought that Cap armour should never be used on a trader ship. But thats my thoughts.

And yes, scouts, escorts, etc. I know all about them and use them when they are available.

And thanks Hone, that responded to my question(s). Make sense in a way.

Yeah, that's mostly how it is for me. When I think piracy, I think Black Pearl; something sleek, fast, and powerful that can get away. Now it's just a question of which side - lawful or unlawful - has the most flying fortresses that determines the temporary ownership of a system.

Again, not griping really, it's just weird.
