What is that? Looks like everybody is doing that.
I just saw a Video on youtube how Bill Gates pours a bucket of Ice Water over himself and I read that many other people did that too. And I mean famous people. Why is everybody doing that now. Is that some kind of new trend?
Edit: I think this thread actually belongs into the General Discussion section.... dunno why I put it into Flood
I refuse to do it. I don't have any money to donate and most of the people who are doing it are either just doing it to be part of the fad, or doing it because anyone who refuses is labelled a miserable loser who doesn't care about the disease.
Alright I found a article about this and its basically:
You pour ice water over you and call out three new people who should do it and if they dont do it in 24 hours they have to donate 100$/€
So you have to decide between, becoming a joke on the internet or donating money to a research for a disease you never heard before until this challenge appeared in the web
It's not a unknown disease. It's Lou Gehrig's Disease, and is actually quite brutal. While many do not understand the importance of it, those who do appreciate that it is being spread around and making people aware of it, even if they aren't donating money.

Come on, most average joes online haven't heard about it until now. While the idea of donating to charity is good, why does it have to take the form of some stupid faddy internet thing?
I can't wait until someone nominates me, I don't do it, then everyone gets angry and says I must like the disease or something.
Did you watch the video? Because the guy whom has the disease in question actually appreciates the "stupid faddy internet thing" for precisely what you are saying: It is generating awareness about the disease, specifically people like you who have not heard of it.
While you think it's stupid, it is working and getting people to make an unknown disease into the public light, which in turn is getting people to act.
Maybe don't be so quick to judge? And again, watch the video.

Have you not seen the videos? Like you said, most 'average joes' haven't heard about it until now, when these videos have started popping up and generating millions of views each. And guess what, now millions more people know about the disease and more money can be donated to help find a cure than if just a few people had decided to donate a couple hundred dollars each.
The point of the videos is to get attention for the disease, and from the fact that a lot of these videos have millions of views proves that it's working.
